Isaiah Glenndell Tryon - Oklahoma Death Row

    Tia Bloomer, 19

Trial to begin in fatal stabbing at downtown Oklahoma City bus station

Isaiah Glenndell Tryon, 25, is accused of stabbing to death the mother of his child, Tia Bloomer, 19.

A death penalty trial is scheduled to start Monday for a man accused of stabbing to death the young mother of his child at the downtown Oklahoma City bus station while she was on her way to seek a protective order against him.

Isaiah G. Tryon, 25, is accused in the stabbing death of Tia Bloomer, 19, in front of multiple witnesses. He was charged with first-degree murder in Oklahoma County District Court in March 2012.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, claiming the slaying was especially heinous, atrocious or cruel.

A known gang member, Tryon was on probation at the time of the slaying having been convicted previously of four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm after juvenile adjudication, court records show.

Prosecutors claim Tryon is a continuing threat to society.

Death penalty trial underway for man accused of killing girlfriend at metro bus station

The victim, Tia Bloomer, was his girlfriend; she was only 19. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Tryon.

The murder happened on the east side of the downtown bus station on 5th Street in 2012. The brutal killing was caught on surveillance video, and will be key evidence in the trial.

The video shows Tryon approach Bloomer. She can be seen trying to tell Tryon to leave her alone, but the suspect proceeds to repeatedly stab the woman.

Bloomer died before she got to the hospital.

The murder was a frightening scene in a very public place.

But Bloomer was just trying to get away from a violent relationship. Family members say she was on her way to the courthouse that morning to get a protective order against Tryon, who plead guilty the year before to assaulting her.

Prosecutors say he also fired a gun at Bloomer while she was holding their child.

Tuesday, Tryon’s attorney spent nearly an hour asking potential jurors how much weight they’d give a psychologist’s testimony, and if they believed in the death penalty.

Testimony is expected to begin Wednesday.

Man Found Guilty In Fatal Stabbing At Downtown OKC Bus Station

OKLAHOMA CITY - A man charged with first degree murder in the 2012 death of his girlfriend is found guilty Friday morning.

It took a jury less than 30 minutes to find Isaiah Tryon, 25, guilty of first degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Tia Bloomer.

The fatal stabbing was caught on surveillance video, which was shown to the jury during the trial.

Witnesses said on March 16, 2012, Bloomer and Tryon were seen at the Metro Bus Station at 420 N.W. 5th Street having a disagreement. Bloomer told Tryon to leave her alone and that's when Tryon pulled a knife. Bloomer was stabbed several times.

The jury made up of four men and eight women, will now have a second stage testimony to listen to during the penalty phase of this death penalty case.

Jury Recommends Death Penalty For Man Charged In Fatal OKC Bus Station Stabbing

An Oklahoma City jury has recommended the death penalty against 25-year-old Isaiah Tryon, the man charged with stabbing a woman to death at the downtown bus station in March 2012.

It took the jury about an hour and a half to reach their verdict.

News 9 is told that jurors agreed that Tryon performed the murder after serving time for a former felony conviction, and posed a danger to the public because the act was particularly heinous

The jury began deliberations just before 4 p.m. after hearing tearful testimony from both Tryon's brother and his defense attorney, as well as a passionate closing argument from the state.

It was very emotional inside the courtroom on Thursday day, with the defendant, Isaiah Tryon, crying during closing arguments. Meanwhile the family of Tia Bloomer, the woman Tryon is accused of killing, shook their head but remained silent.

The jury listened to the defense team make one last plea to spare his life and not give him the death penalty. They also had one last look at the surveillance video that showed the murder take place.

This is the same jury who convicted Tryon last Friday after only spending 15 minutes deliberating his guilt for stabbing and killing Bloomer, the mother of his child, at the downtown bus station last March.

“I know that they loved each other. I just didn't know love could be taken so far,” said Tia's sister, Jhantae Bloomer.

Tia's mother and sisters were inside the courtroom when they jury announced their decision. They were overcome with emotion after the announcement of the verdict; crying on the courthouse floor.

Man convicted in fatal bus station stabbing sentenced to death

Isaiah Tryon, 25, was convicted Friday in Oklahoma County District Court of the first-degree murder of 19-year-old Tia Bloomer. On Thursday, jurors decided that he should be sentenced to the death penalty.

A jury has chosen a death sentence for a gang member convicted of stabbing to death the mother of his child at the downtown Oklahoma City bus station.

Isaiah Tryon, 25, was convicted Feb. 27 in Oklahoma County District Court of the first-degree murder of 19-year-old Tia Bloomer. On Thursday, jurors decided that he should be sentenced to death.

Bloomer was repeatedly and fatally stabbed by Tryon inside the bus station the morning of March 16, 2012. Numerous people witnessed the stabbing, which occurred as she was on her way to file a protective order against him.

Prosecutors had four aggravating factors for which they sought the death penalty. They argued that the stabbing was heinous, atrocious or cruel as well as that he was on probation at the time of the slaying. A known gang member and previously convicted of a violent felony, Tryon poses a continuing risk, prosecutors argued.

Jurors agreed with all four factors, rendering their decision after about an hour of deliberation.

“Justice has been served,” Sharon Poole, Bloomer’s aunt, said after the death sentence was chosen.

“In a way, I kind of feel sorry for his mom because I’m a mom myself. No matter what goes on, she’s still a mother,” Poole said.

Both of Tryon’s parents as well as siblings, cousins and two psychologists testified over the course of five days during the trial’s punishment phase in an attempt to spare Tryon’s life. Several of his family members are incarcerated.

They all described a childhood for Tryon that included two parents addicted to crack cocaine, an abusive father and neglectful extended family. Several witnesses testified that there was often not enough food in the house and that the children went to bed hungry.

Jurors saw video from surveillance cameras that showed him stabbing Bloomer repeatedly.

The trial was an emotional one from all sides, with Tryon and a defense attorney openly weeping during closing arguments.

There were heated objections from both sides every step of the way, and several witnesses also cried openly while testifying.

The jury was cleared from the courtroom on Tuesday as Tryon began making unprompted comments from the defense table while lawyers conferred with District Judge Cindy Truong at the bench. Tryon commented about his mother’s testimony and his feelings about the trial, and jurors were advised to disregard his statements.

Getting Tryon’s mother, Sheryl Wilson, to testify also was trying for the defense. She was taken from the courthouse on a stretcher after complaining of chest pains Monday, and then fled the courthouse during her testimony after her son’s outburst on Tuesday.

A warrant for her arrest was issued, but she returned on her own later that day and completed her testimony on Wednesday.

“Tia was such a remarkable girl. She had her baby, she continued with her education. She was a rising star,” prosecutor Suzanne Lavenue said. “I think she fell in love with him at a time in her life when she wasn’t totally mature, but she tried to make the best of it and it cost her her life. There were time and time and time again when he victimized her.”

“It’s easy to be passionate about something that’s as heinous as what this is,” prosecutor Merydith Easter said. “I think this verdict is justice for Tia Bloomer.”

Death sentence upheld for Oklahoman in bus station stabbing

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder conviction and death sentence of a man who stabbed his estranged girlfriend to death at an Oklahoma City bus station.

The court on Thursday rejected numerous appeals by 28-year-ol Isaiah Tryon, who was convicted of killing 19-year-old Tia Bloomer in March 2012. Bloomer was stabbed numerous times in front of several witnesses inside the Metro Transit station in downtown Oklahoma City in an attack that was caught on security video.

Tryon’s appeals included improper jury selection, failure to dismiss a juror for misconduct, improper evidence and that the death penalty is unconstitutional.

Prosecutors say Bloomer had recently ended her relationship with Tryon and threatened to accuse him of assaulting her.
