Dispatch Staff Report
The Dispatch
A Columbus, Ohio man suspected of a quadruple murder has been tracked down in Oktibbeha County, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
The U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team tracked Robert Lee Adams, 27, to a home in Rock Hill, northeast of Starkville.
Adams, according to U.S. Marshals, is wanted in Ohio for four counts of murder, five counts of kidnapping, five counts of robbery and one count of felonious assault. The charges stem from a deadly June 13 robbery wherein Adams and an accomplice, according to federal authorities, held five victims at gunpoint in the basement of a home in Columbus, Ohio.
Adams allegedly shot the five victims, killing four of them.
Since then, Adams has been on the run and has been subject of a large scale, multi-agency, multi-state fugitive investigation. His accused accomplice was arrested shortly after the shooting.
The Columbus-based Marshals, working with the Columbus Division of Police, developed information that led investigators to several address of interest near Starkville. Information and tips the Marshals gathered indicated that Adams fled to Mississippi shortly after the shooting.
Officers of the United States Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and deputies from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department swarmed two addresses Wednesday morning and eventually cornered Adams in a home in the Rock Hill community.
Officers reportedly found Adams -- surrounded by piles of clothes -- in a bedroom closet.
"This fugitive has demonstrated extreme violence and shown a disregard for the lives of others," said U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio Peter C. Tobin. "We in the law enforcement community are very happy that Adams is in custody without further bloodshed."
