    Spencer Rawlins Brasure - California




    Facts of the Crime:

    Spencer Rawlins Brasure was sentenced to death in Ventura County on August 24, 1998 for torturing a Redondo Beach man on September 7, 1996 by tying him to a makeshift electric chair. Brasure later burned Anthony Guest, 26, alive and left his body in a park near Gorman.

    On September 13, 2011, Brasure filed an appeal in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit over the denial of his habeas petition in Federal District Court.

    In today's United States Supreme Court orders, Brasure's petition for writ of certiorari was DENIED.

    I looked it up and this guy has filed an extraordinary amount of conditions regarding prison conditions etc. There could be a possibility of the cert denial being related to that rather than his habeas appeal.

    Oddly, I could not find the Ninth's denial in published or unpublished opinions by a site search of the case number or name. I also searched prisoner death penalty cases and came up empty handed.

    Ah..it's a pro se case. He represented himself. Must be one of his numerous claims as you stated, JLR.

    On February 7, 2008, the California Supreme Court upheld Brasure's death sentence on direct appeal.
