UPDATES: Mass shooting in San Bernardino Calif., search on for suspects
According to CNN affiliate KABC, the shooting took place at Inland Regional Center, a facility for people with developmental disabilities.
There are multiple buildings in the IRC complex, CNN affiliate KTLA reported. SWAT teams are moving methodically through to clear them.
Witnesses told police they saw three men carrying long rifles, according to a law enforcement source. The source said the suspects got into a black SUV and drove away.
The bomb squad discovered a suspicious package on the second floor of a building and determined it is "not normal," and it will be handled with a robot, the source said.
A woman who works in one of the buildings where the shootings occurred texted her father: "Shooting at my work. People shot." The father told KABC his daughter said 10 to 20 people were shot.
Police in San Bernardino, California, are looking for one to three gunmen after a mass shooting Wednesday at a social services facility.
Police officers with heavy weapons have been dispatched to key sites nearby like universities, hospitals and Planned Parenthood buildings that could be vulnerable, according to law enforcement.
Agencies in the area have been warned to be on the lookout for up to three men who fled the shooting site in a black SUV.
The San Bernardino Fire Department said on Twitter that it was responding to reports of a "20-victim shooting incident."
The county fire department has said on Twitter that they are performing triage and treating victims.
The Inland Regional Center's Facebook page says it employs nearly 670 staff at its facilities in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, providing services to more than 30,200 people. At this point, it is unclear how many people were at the San Bernardino facility at the time of the shooting. Los Angeles police and fire units as well as the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are responding to the scene, according to agency representatives.
A spokeswoman for the Loma Linda University Medical Center said they are expecting an unknown number of patients from the shooting. She said the extent of the anticipated patients' injuries is not clear.
President Obama has been briefed on the situation.
