Iraq executes Saudi prisoner ‘for terrorism’

ARAR: Iraqi authorities executed Saudi prisoner Abdullah Mahmous Sydat last Sunday.
Sydat was being held in Al-Nasiryah Prison, south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

According to Al-Riyadh newspaper, the Iraqi Ministry of Justice pronounced the death sentence for Sydat after convicting him of terrorism.

According to the newspaper, the Iraqi ministry notified the Saudi Embassy in Bagdad of the conviction and actual execution of Sydat a few days ago. Sources confirmed, however, that the execution was carried out on Sunday, March 6 and that the embassy was only notified of the decision after the execution took place.

The sources added that the Saudi prisoner was executed along with a number of other Iraqi prisoners.

The family of the prisoner said they were notified about his execution on Thursday by the Iraqi Ministry of Justice, but were not given any further details.

Sydat left the Kingdom for Iraq in 2007 and was arrested on charges of terrorism during his time there. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, which was later upgraded to the death sentence.

The man, who has two children, had asked that he be buried in Madinah.

The ministry "carried out death sentences against 22 convicts condemned for crimes and terrorist acts," Justice Minister Haidar al-Zamili said in a statement. It also quoted Zamili as saying that, with the start of the Iraqi operation to retake the city of Fallujah from the Islamic State (IS) group, "We confirm ... that the ministry is continuing to carry out just punishment against terrorists.

"Rights group Amnesty International said that Baghdad executed at least 26 people in 2015.

Iraq sentenced nearly 100 people to death within the first two months of 2016, the group said in a February report.

ISIS executes its own fighters by plunging them in vats of ACID in desperate purge of 'spies' after US drones take out terror leaders

Terror bosses devised the brutal new method of execution after a string of senior figures were killed in precision drone strikes in Iraq and Syria.

Around 38 suspected informants were killed in Mosul last month - many by being dunked in acid - in a vicious purge launched in response to the death of terror leader Abu Hayjaa al-Tunsi.

His vehicle was blown to bits as he was driving through northern Syria in March.

Commanders are said to be growing increasingly paranoid that closely guarded details of their movements are being leaked from inside their own ranks.

Islamic State executes seven of its own militants for escaping battlefront in Iraq

DUHOK – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) on Sunday executed seven of its own militants on charges of treason, local sources in Iraq’s northwestern Mosul city reported.

The seven militants were accused of escaping the battlefront in the Sharqat district south of Mosul, where heavy fighting continued between ISIS and the Iraqi army.

“The Sharia Court accused them of high treason. They were subsequently executed in central Mosul amid the attendance of dozens of ISIS members as well as residents from the city,” media activist Munzir Hussein told ARA News in Mosul.

“A Sharia official read a statement before the execution was conducted, saying those who flee the jihad fronts are enemies of Allah and unbelievers, and that they deserve death,” the source reported.

In early May, ISIS has executed eight of its own militants on charges of attempting dissidence in the city of Manbij in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo.

Local activists confirmed that ISIS has executed its own militants for trying to desert the group’s ranks and flee to Turkey.

Speaking to ARA News in Manbij, media activist Nasser Taljbini said that ISIS militants who observe Syria-Turkey borderline near their areas of control have arrested several members of the group while trying to escape and cross the border into Turkey.

“The arrestees, including jihadis from several Arab nationalities, were executed by firing squad on Tuesday near the Ittihad University building west of Manbij,” the source reported.

Taljbini pointed out that a masked member from the Sharia Court in Manbij explained the reason behind executing the militants, saying “these are traitors for the Caliphate”.

In February, ISIS-linked border guards were able to capture an ISIS militant, a Tunisian national, along with his Chechen wife, in the city of Jarablus northern Syria, while trying to flee the group’s ranks to Turkey, according to local sources.

“ISIS border guards were able to capture the Tunisian militant and his wife near the Turkish border in the western suburbs of Jarablus before crossing border into Turkey,” media activist J.S., based in Jarablus, told ARA News, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The source pointed out the arrestees were taken to the ISIS’s Sharia Court in Jarablus for interrogation.

Several reports confirmed that many ISIS militants have deserted the group’s ranks recently, especially in the areas under its control in Jarablus, Manbij, and al-Bab in Aleppo suburbs near the Turkish border.

PM of Iraq orders immediate execution of all convicted terrorists

The Prime Minister of Iraq Haider Jawad Kadhim Al-Abadi ordered on Monday to execute immediately all terrorists on death row in the country. The instructions were submitted to the Ministry of Justice after deadly attacks in Baghdad on Sunday, which killed 165 and wounded 225.

A lorry packed with explosives was detonated in a busy shopping district of the capital of Iraq where locals were shopping for the holiday marking the end of Ramadan. The second bomb exploded at an outdoor market in the Shaab, neighbourhood of southeastern Baghdad. So-called Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attacks, which believed to be the deadliest in Iraq since 2007. Prime Minister al-Abadi condemned the bombing and declared three days of mourning across the country after visiting the scene of the attack.

Despite territorial gains by Iraq’s ground forces against ISIS and loosing by the latter one of 45 percent of the territory it once held in Iraq, the terrorist group is still able to launch attacks.

Iraq executes 5 a day after the bombing

Iraq's Justice Ministry says five convicted terrorists have been executed in Baghdad.

Monday's announcement came a day after a massive bombing claimed by the Islamic State group killed more than 150 people in the heart of the Iraqi capital.

In February, Amnesty International reported that the number of Iraqis sentenced to death in 2016 came close to 100. The rights group called it a "grim indicator of the current state of justice in the country."

Despite Iraq's record high rate of executions — the country ranks second behind Iran — attacks are still frequent.

Small-scale bombings occur almost daily in Baghdad, and in May a string of larger bombings, many claimed by IS, killed more than 200 people in a single week.

Iraq hangs 36 men over 2014 Camp Speicher massacre

Iraq hangs 36 men over 2014 Camp Speicher massacre

Decision follows prime minister's recent vow to expedite execution of convicts sentenced to death in terrorism cases.

Iraq has hanged 36 men convicted over the 2014 massacre of hundreds of military recruits, government officials say.

They had been found guilty of involvement in the "Speicher" massacre, named after a base near Tikrit where up to 1,700 recruits were kidnapped before being executed in a massacre claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.

"The executions of 36 convicted over the Speicher crime were carried out this morning in Nasiriyah prison," a spokesman for the governor's office in Dhiqar, the province of which Nasiriyah is the capital, told AFP.

"The governor of Dhiqar, Yahya al-Nasseri, and Justice Minister Haidar al-Zamili were present to oversee the executions," Abdelhassan Dawood said.

"They were transferred to Nasiriyah last week after the president approved the executions."

Dawood was referring to the necessary green light from Iraqi President Fuad Masum.

Following the death of more than 300 people in the worst ever single bomb attack to strike Baghdad last month, Haider al-Abadi, Iraqi prime minister, had said he wanted to expedite the execution of inmates sentenced to death in terrorism cases.

Nasseri confirmed to AFP news agency that the executions were carried out by hanging.

His spokesman said that about 400 of the Speicher massacre victims were from Dhiqar, which is predominantly Shia and located in Iraq's south.

another article on same mass execution.

This morning, Iraq hanged 36 men in Nasiriyah prison for a 2014 sectarian massacre perpetrated by the emerging Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL).

After months’ gestation in the Syrian civil war, the Sunni ISIS in June 2014 burst out of its enclaves and in the course of a few jeep-racing weeks gobbled upper Mesopotamia. It publicly declared its border-straddling conquests the Caliphate on June 29, 2014.

Iraq’s army mostly melted away ahead of the onrushing threat that summer, abandoning weapons and fleeing while ISIS overran Mosul on June 10, then advanced another 200 km to snatch Saddam Hussein‘s birthplace of Tikrit the very next day.

On June 12, ISIS fighters proceeded out of Tikrit to the adjacent air academy Camp Speicher.* There they abducted only the Shia cadets, including about 400 from southern Iraq’s Shia Dhiqar province, and mass-executed an estimated 1,600 — atrocities they took pains to document in a nauseating propaganda video showing dazed and pleading youths trucked to a forlorn ditch where they are laid flat and fusilladed by the dozen, while others are shot from a gore-soaked pier into the Tigris. (The video is available here.)

Of all ISIS’s many bloodbaths, Camp Speicher might be the very bloodiest.

“The executions of 36 convicted over the Speicher crime were carried out this morning in Nasiriyah prison. The governor of Dhiqar, Yahya al-Nasseri, and the justice minister, Haidar al-Zamili, were present to oversee the executions,” according to an Iraqi spokesman a few hours ago.

    * The Iraqi Al Sahra air base was renamed by U.S. occupation forces in honor of the first American combat casualty of the 1991 Gulf War.
