19-year-old charged with 4 capital murders appears in court

The teenager who was indicted on four capital murder charges appeared in court Monday morning.

Authorities charged 19-year-old Joshua Dukes in three separate murder investigations that left four people dead.

He pleaded not guilty to all four charges before Hinds County Judge Bill Gowan.

Dukes was initially arrested on March 22, 2016, for the murders of Daniel Gomez and Eli Nunez. They were both shot and killed on Westhaven Boulevard on March 5 during a robbery. A dog was also shot.

While he was being held in jail for that double homicide, police connected Dukes to the death of 85-year-old James Hankins. Hankins was killed February 13, 2016. He was shot in the head in is yard on McCluer Road.

After he was denied bond for that murder, investigators named Dukes as a suspect in the O’Reilly Auto Parts murder investigation. The victim, Broderick Smith, was killed during a robbery at the Livingston Road location in November 2015.

A trial date will be set for Dukes to face these charges.
