Federal Inmate Eddie James Pugh Sentenced to LWOP in 2008 MS Double Homicide

Man sentenced to life now faces death in Mississippi

The capital murder trial of a New Orleans man is underway in Jackson County. But Eddie Pugh is already serving a federal life sentence for that crime. Now, state officials want justice in Mississippi.
Eddie Pugh, already facing life in prison, will stand before a Jackson County judge and jury this week to answer for his role in a 2008 kidnapping and a murder that began in New Orleans and ended in Jackson County.
"Just because the federal government determine life in prison was suitable penalty for the crime, it is up to the State of Mississippi and the citizens of Jackson to decided on a state level what the sentences should be," Narcotics Task Force Commander Curtis Spiers said.
According to Investigators, Pugh, his girlfriend Torenda Whitmore and Barron Borden got into argument over drugs with two men in New Orleans. Authorities said the trio tied up Byron Kelsey McCoy and Rahman MoGilles then drove an hour and half to the Latimer woods to kill them both.
"We found the car burned and the other suspects ran through the woods and were captured under old Biloxi Road by the bridge, near the Latimer Community Center," Sheriff Mike Byrd said.
MoGilles was shot once in the back, but survived. McCoy was shot and left inside the car which was set on fire.
If Pugh is convicted of capital murder, he could receive the death penalty.
Pugh is no stranger to the law. He has been arrested for burglary and bank robbery. Authorities said with so much involved in this gruesome murder, they expect a lengthy trial.

Eddie Pugh found guilty of capital murder

New Orleans resident Eddie was convicted of capital murder today in the death of Kelsey McCoy. Pugh, 31, was also convicted of aggravated assault of Rahman MoGilles and arson, both of which are felonies.

The jury of 8 women and 4 men will now decide if Pugh should be sentenced to a third life sentenced for his role in McCoy's slaying or be given death by lethal injection.
