Spring Hill man charged in connection to a triple murder in Kentucky

    By baynews9.com

PINELLAS COUNTY -- A Spring Hill man was arrested in Pinellas County Friday night in connection to a triple murder in Kentucky.

Cruz Olivo, 46, is charged with three counts of murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Olivo was taken into custody around 10:15 p.m. Jan. 12, after deputies stopped his vehicle at US 19 North and Ulmerton Road.

Olivo is accused of killing a man and two women inside a home in Louisville, Kentucky. Officials said Olivo fled the scene with his 3-year-old daughter. Two juveniles were also found inside the home unharmed, the report stated.

The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department has been working with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and authorities in Hernando County to locate Olivo, who had a warrant out for his arrest.

When Olivo was arrested, officials said he was wearing a ballistic vest and had an AK47 assault rifle on the passenger seat.

Officials also said his 3-year-old daughter was found safe in Hernando County.

Olivo was transported to the Pinellas County Jail on the LMPD warrant and will be charged by LMPD with three counts of murder and one county of tampering with physical evidence.

Execution-style triple murder led to peaceful arrest in Florida, police say

    By Grace Schneider
    The Louisville Courier-Journal

Louisville police steered away Monday from revealing what investigators learned about what triggered a fatal shooting spree last Thursday in Pleasure Ridge Park that left three adults dead and two pre-schoolers without their parents.

Instead, they focused on the drama involving the capture of the suspect, Christopher Olivio, 46, of Spring Hill, Florida, who was arrested in the Tampa area and now faces felony charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Thanks to OnStar technology, which provided GPS details of Olivio's location, police in Pinellas County, Florida, stopped Olivio's car and took him into custody without incident, said Lt. Emily McKinley at a press conference Monday.

Pinellas County Sheriff's reported that Olivio was booked Saturday morning.

Police found a ballistic vest and an AK47 assault rifle on the passenger seat of his vehicle, McKinley said. Officers also recovered a weapon they believe was used in the slayings.

Police say Olivo fled the scene with another child, a daughter he had in common with one of the female victims. That girl, who is 2 years old, was found in Hernando County and is with relatives.

A coroner reported that brother and sister Mike Miles, 27, and Geneva Miles, 39, died from a gunshot wound to the head. Catherine Miles, 24, died from multiple gunshot wounds. Their bodies were found inside a home in the 6400 block of Venango Drive, in Pleasure Ridge Park.

Two children under the age of 5 were also found unharmed in the home.

Louisville Metro Police have investigated five homicides so far this year. In addition to the triple murder, one person was killed on Jan. 6 in Park Hill and another in Worthington Hills on Thursday.

Cops use "invisible cloak" to shield kids from crime scene where family slain

    By Crimesider Staff
    CBS News

LOUISVILLE -- Police responding to a triple homicide in a Kentucky home found two young children unharmed in their cribs in the next room, and used a make-believe "invisible cloak" to shield them from the gruesome scene.

Police in Louisville found three people dead with multiple gunshot wounds in the home Friday, according to Lt. Emily McKinley, commander of the Louisville Metropolitan Police homicide unit. They were identified as 27-year-old Mike Miles, his 23-year-old wife, Catherine Miles, and his 39-year-old sister Geneva Miles. McKinley said police found a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, the children of Mike and Catherine Miles, hungry and with dirty diapers but otherwise unharmed in their cribs in the next room, with the door closed.

McKinley said first responders changed the children's diapers and brought them food, but were faced with a challenge when attempting to remove the children from the home "without seeing the horrific scene just outside the door."

"A couple of our detectives went straight into dad mode," McKinley said. "With the four-year-old little boy, they pretended to be 'Iron Men,' and used blankets as invisible cloaks and draped themselves, and quickly carried the little boy outside the house without him seeing anything."

Detectives played "hide and seek" with the two-year-old girl, McKinley said, before also draping the child in a blanket and carrying her outside to family.

McKinley said investigators believe the children were in the adjacent room with the door shut during the slayings and may have been put to bed before the homicides occurred.

Police quickly identified Geneva Miles' boyfriend, 46-year-old Christopher Cruz Olivo, as the suspect, and determined that Olivo had fled with their three-year-old daughter. They realized his car was equipped with OnStar technology and tracked him down in the Tampa area with the help of Onstar, the Hernando County Sheriff's Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department.

After a traffic stop, Olivo was arrested, and the three-year-old girl was found unharmed with family in Hernando County.

Olivo was wearing a ballistic vest and had an AK-47 assault rifle next to him in the passenger seat when he was arrested, McKinley said. The assault rifle was not the murder weapon, she said.

McKinley did not provide a motive for the slayings. She said Geneva Miles and Christopher Olivo weren't married but had been together for some time. McKinley said they had recently moved to Louisville with their daughter and had been staying with Geneva's brother and his wife, the two other victims.

Louisville officials are traveling to Florida and will seek to have Olivo extradited back to Kentucky.

Olivo is charged with three counts of murder and one count of tampering with evidence, but could face more charges, McKinley said.

Death penalty possible for man accused of killing 3 as children slept in next room

    By WDRB News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Prosecutors say they're still considering the death penalty for the man accused of killing the mother of his daughter along with two people they were staying with inside a Pleasure Ridge Park home.

Christopher Olivo appeared in court Thursday, and a judge set another court date for April 30. Police say Olivo killed Mike and Catherine Miles, and Mike's sister Geneva Miles. They were found shot to death in a home in Pleasure Ridge Park in January 2018.

The judge set Olivo's bond at $1 million. A public defender will be appointed to represent him.
