Police: Texas woman admits killing 4-year-old daughter, throwing body in trash before reporting her missing

Police in Texas arrested a woman who they say admitted to cutting her 4-year-old daughter’s throat, then throwing the girl in the trash before reporting her missing.

The Fort Worth Police Department arrested 34-year-old Krystal Lewandowski on Monday on a capital murder charge. Lewandowski called the police department to report her daughter missing Monday morning, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by USA TODAY.

After a 911 operator asked Lewandowski questions about her daughter, Lewandowski said, “OK, maybe I should just tell you now. OK, so last night I was advised to slit her throat,” the affidavit states. The operator asked where Lewandowski’s daughter was and Lewandowski replied, “I wrapped her up and I put her in a trash can,” according to the warrant.

An officer was sent to Lewandowski’s home, where he found a small child inside a trash bag in a trash can in the backyard, the affidavit said.

“While on the scene Lewandowski made several statements about causing harm to her daughter because she was told to do so, or something worse would happen to her daughter if Lewandowski didn’t slit her daughter’s throat,” according to the affidavit.

She told a detective she cut her daughter’s throat on Sunday.

Her daughter, Czara Lewandowski, had turned 4 this month.

An 18-month old child, Czara’s sibling, was removed from Lewandowski’s home, a Fort Worth Police Department spokesman confirmed to USA TODAY. A Texas Department of Family and Protective Services spokeswoman confirmed that child is now in foster care. She added Lewandowski has previous history with Child Protective Services, “but the details are confidential.”

Lewandowski was interviewed by detectives from the police department’s Crimes Against Children Unit, police said. She said she “saved” her daughter and was preventing something worse from happening to her, according to the affidavit.

Online jail records show Lewandowski is in custody at the Tarrant County Correction Center.

Fort Worth woman pleads guilty to murder of 4-year-old daughter, gets 50-year sentence

Krystal Judy Lewandowski, 36, killed the girl, Czara, in August 2020.

A Fort Worth woman pleaded guilty Thursday to the slaying of her 4-year-old daughter in 2020, receiving a 50-year prison sentence, the Tarrant County criminal district attorney’s office said.

Krystal Judy Lewandowski, 36, has remained at the Tarrant County jail since she was arrested on a capital murder charge in August 2020. She pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of murder in a deal with prosecutors, according to court records.

Her attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Officers responded to Lewandowski’s duplex in the 2100 block of Hurley Avenue after she called 911 and reported the girl, Czara, missing on Aug. 24, 2020, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

The dispatcher asked about Czara’s location and Lewandowski said she was in a trash can in the backyard, the affidavit says. A responding officer reported finding the girl’s body in a trash bag beneath two other bags in the trash can, and she was pronounced dead at the home.

Lewandowski eventually told the dispatcher she’d killed the child the previous night, police said. She spoke about hurting her daughter because she was told to do so, and, in a later interview, she told a detective she had saved her daughter from a more terrible fate, according to the affidavit.

Police also said at the time that Child Protective Services removed an 18-month-old boy from the home.
