Sievers case will continue as previously scheduled, for now

    By Wink News

Attorneys for two suspects accused of being involved in the killing of Teresa Sievers appeared before a judge Wednesday after the state and defense requested a delay in the trial start date.

The request was to delay an already scheduled June 3 trial to September, but Judge Bruce Kyle did not approve the motion for continuance yet, and instead set a pretrial conference for May 9 at 8:30 a.m. to reassess.

The judge said he wants to see what they can get done by then.

The state’s request for a continuance came after prosecutors received a trace evidence analysis report from the FBI on February 25. Attorneys say the report will require further investigation by the State as to the matters contained in the report and the State may not be ready for trial.

Mark Sievers, Teresa’s husband, is accused of orchestrated the death with long-time friend Curtis Wayne Wright Jr.

Wright pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and in a plea deal is expected to help prosecutors in the case.

Jimmy Rodgers faces first-degree murder for killing Sievers with a hammer at her Bonita Springs home in 2015.

If convicted Sievers and Rodgers could face the death penalty.

Two juries to listen to prosecutors of Sievers murder case

    By Wink News

In a new development for the Dr. Teresa Sievers murder case in Lee County, two juries will now listen to prosecutors who are trying to convict husband Mark Sievers and Jimmy Rodgers for her death in 2015.

Wayne Wright, an allegedly hired hit man, admitted to killing Dr. Sievers in 2015. In exchange, he will testify against Mark and Rodgers in June.

Mark is accused of hiring Wright to kill his wife. And Wright allegedly recruited Rodgers to help him with the killing.

The state attorney’s office said it couldn’t comment on the reasoning behind two juries for the trial because it is still an active case.
