CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Corpus Christi man mandated to testify in all remaining cases involving the murder of Breanna Wood has been arrested for violating his parole.

Christopher Gonzalez was arrested on April 1 in Colbert County, Alabama for violations of parole, including changing his residence without notification.

Gonzalez was one of seven people charged in relation to the murder of Wood.

Wood was killed in 2016. Her remains were discovered wrapped in plastic and buried in a box off of State Highway 666 and State Highway 1833.

Joseph Tejeda is currently awaiting trial for capital murder, which has been postponed to August.

Gonzalez was initially charged with capital murder, but plead guilty to organized criminal activity in exchange for testifying in the Tejeda case and serving 10 years in prison.

He was released on mandatory supervision on June 17, 2022 and is currently awaiting extradition from Alabama for the pending parole violation.

Trial date set for woman charged in capital murder case of Breanna Wood

    By Rachel Denny Clow
    KRIS 6 News

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One of three people still awaiting trial in connection with the 2016 killing of Breanna Wood is back in Nueces County.

Sandra Vasquez is charged with capital murder and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Visiting Judge J. Manuel Banales ordered Friday that Vasquez remains in the Nueces County Jail until trial for capital murder, which has been set from October 30 to November 17.

Vasquez was convicted in 2017 on a first-degree felony charge of intent to commit a burglary of a habitation and sentenced to serve 25 years in state jail. She returned to Nueces County on Thursday for Friday's hearing.

Lisa Greenberg, attorney for Vasquez, asked that Banales keep her in the Nueces County Jail and not return her to prison to allow her to prepare for trial.

Greenberg and co-counsel Adam Rodriguez added there was a detainer for Vasquez from Travis County for two pending misdemeanor cases and there was a concern she may be transferred to that county, rather than be returned to prison.

Greenberg is the third attorney to be appointed to defend Vasquez, she and Rodrigue were appointed after David Klein was elected 148th District Court Judge. She argued that allowing Vasquez to stay in the county would both allow her to prepare for trial, as well as save the county money.

"With voluminous information, we have several questions," Greenberg said. "I'm going to request as much (time) as possible. It's easier to drive to the courthouse and speak to her there."

And while the prosecution did not object to that request, they did ask that Vasquez be prohibited from communicating with Joseph Tejeda, who is charged with multiple felonies including capital murder in the killing of Wood.

Prosecutor James Haugh also asked that order be extended to Christopher Gozalez had been apprehended for violations of parole and is expected to be transferred to the Nueces County Jail.

Gonzalez was initially charged with capital murder but pleaded guilty to organized criminal activity in exchange for testifying in the Tejeda case and serving 10 years in prison.

Banales agreed to that order and advised Vasquez that she could not pass information from any person that visits her to Tejeda or Gonzalez.

In setting her case for trial, Haugh said that it was the state's intention to try Tejeda first, Vasquez second and Rosalinda Musella last. Musella is Tejeda's mother and charged with tampering with evidence.

Tejeda's case is set to go to trial on August 11.

Plea agreement closes the book on Tejeda case

Tejeda and six others were originally arrested for killing the 21-year-old and leaving her remains in a box near Bluntzer

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Joseph Teleda pleaded guilty Monday to murder charges in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend Breanna Wood, according to court officials.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder, 20 years for burglary, and 20 years for assault on a public servant, to be served concurrently.

Tejeda was one of seven people originally arrested after Wood's body was found wrapped in heavy plastic. She had a gunshot wound to the head and broken arms, and was found in a 16 x 24 ft. box inside an abandoned house in Bluntzer.

His most recent trial date was set for Aug. 21, almost six-and-a-half years since he originally was arrested and charged with Wood's murder. At the time, Tejeda already was in jail: He had been there since October 2016, charged with an unrelated crime when his arrest affidavit was sworn out in January 2017.

Those involved in the case are still under a gag order because Sandra Vasquez, who allegedly also participated in Wood's death, is set to go to trial later this year.

The case against Tejeda's mother Rosalina Musella also was dismissed; she had been charged with evidence tampering.

Angelica Hernandez resigns from Nueces County DA's Office

    By Rachel Denny Clow
    KRIS 6 News

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Angelica Hernandez, the first assistant with the Nueces County District Attorney Office, has resigned, according to a top Nueces County official.

That resignation was tendered Friday, September 22, and effective immediately.

Hernandez's resignation came three weeks after the resignation of DA Mark Gonzales, who was set to go to trial in December in a case seeking his removal from office.

As 6 Investigates previously reported, Hernandez allowed Breanna Wood's mother, Fallon Wood, to access discovery in the pending capital murder cases of Joseph Tejeda and Sandra Vasquez.

Breanna Wood was killed in 2016. Seven people were charged in connection with her death.

Following that KRIS 6 News report, criminal defense attorneys filed motions to dismiss both cases.

Those cases were not dismissed, however in a ruling by Visiting Judge Manuel J. Banales he wrote, "The Court finds that, although there was credible evidence of gross incompetence, negligence and/or carelessness on the part of the Nueces County District Attorney's Office in the prosecution and investigation of these cases, such misconduct does not rise to the level requiring the dismissal of the capital murder indictments."
