Tennessee Governor Bill Lee releases statement regarding death row inmate Lee Hall

Nashville, Tenn. (WKRN) - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee released the following statement regarding death row inmate Lee Hall on Wednesday afternoon:

“The justice system has extensively reviewed Lee Hall’s case over the course of almost 30 years, including additional review and rulings by the Tennessee Supreme Court yesterday and today. The judgment and sentence stand based on these rulings, and I will not intervene in this case.”

Sixth Circuit denies Lee Hall's requests to delay execution, new trial

    By Rosana Hughes
    Chattanooga Times Free Press

The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has denied Chattanoogan Lee Hall's petition to delay his execution in order for the courts to consider the possible bias of a juror who helped sentence him to death decades ago.

Hall's defense has embarked on a last-minute legal battle to overturn his conviction after they discovered information they say indicates a juror was biased at his trial. As part of that effort, the attorneys asked Gov. Bill Lee and Tennessee's Supreme Court to delay the execution in order to give the courts time to examine the possible constitutional violation. They also filed motions in federal court in hopes of accomplishing the same thing.

The state's highest court denied the 53-year-old's request on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, Lee did the same, as did the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

" ... the Supreme Court has told lower courts that "[l]ast-minute stays" of executions "should be the extreme exception, not the norm," the court noted in its ruling. "We see no grounds for finding that Hall's case should be that rare exception. We deny his motion to remand, his request to file a second or successive petition, and his motion to stay his execution."

Bet he didn't see that one coming. Bad joke I know, couldn't resist.

Here's the full order. The panel was made up of Kethledge (G.W. Bush), Thapar (Trump), and Murphy (Trump).

So bad I tried the veal and tipped my waiter. If this guy isn't a poster boy for "worst of the worst" it would be hard to say who is.

Somehow, we are diving deeper into a cesspool of degeneracy by executing a person who is blind. Cannot follow that line of thought, but that is part of his attorney's message following refusal by the state supreme court.

Wait! You mean we shouldn't execute this individual because he is blind? "cesspool of degeneracy"? Damn, I don't want to go there. I just happen to believe that setting someone on fire as a method of taking their life causes your life to be forfeited. Wouldn't be fair to the next guy who burned someone to death if we execute him because he can still see.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is just the clinical term used to describe an individual who is nothing more than an asshole.

“cesspool of degeneracy" sounds like an awesome punk rock band from the mid 80’s.

Blind death row inmate eats final meal ahead of execution for killing ex-girlfriend

Lee Hall chose a last meal ahead of his execution later this evening. He was sentenced to death after dousing Traci Crozier in gasoline before setting her alight in her car.

A blind man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend by setting her on fire in her car almost 30 years ago is to be executed by electric chair tonight, in an act which his legal team argue would "offend humanity".

Tennessee man Lee Hall, 54, is set to face execution at 7pm local time, making the southeastern US state only the second in history to execute a blind man since capital punishment resumed in 1976, his legal team said.

The killer chose a last meal of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich with two portions of onion rings, The Tennessean reports.

As he faces his final hours, he opted for a dessert of cheesecake and washed it all down with a Pepsi, according to the Tennessee Department of Correction.

Hall's legal team claim he is blind due to the state Department of Correction’s refusal to treat the glaucoma he developed after entering jail, The Washington Post reports.

Among several unsuccessful appeals, his legal team have attempted to argue that his death sentence should be commuted due to his blindness.

is he really blind? when did he go blind? what caused his blindness?

I just don't see any of the blindness as a true condition. I sure hope I am not wrong for saying that!
