Caylor gets death penalty
The family of murdered 13-year-old Melinda Hinson sat in the 2nd row of the Bay County courtroom and wept softy in relief Friday as Circuit Judge Dedee Costello ordered Matthew Caylor put to death for the girl’s brutal rape and strangulation.
“We feel that justice has been served in this case,” said Prosecutor Larry Basford, who credited the hard work of both the Panama City Police Department and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
Caylor showed no emotion as the order was read and turned to silently confer with Deputy Public Defender Walter Smith, who said afterward that Caylor had expected the sentence.
A 12-member jury had recommended the death penalty 8-4 in October for Caylor, who was convicted for 1st-degree murder for raping and killing Hinson at the Panama City Valu-Lodge on July 8, 2008.

MATTHEW LEE CAYLOR V THE STATE OF FLORIDA
In today's orders, the Florida Supreme Court AFFIRMED Caylor's conviction and death sentence on direct appeal.
And the story...
State Supreme Court upholds killer's conviction
PANAMA CITY -- The Florida Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and sentence of a man convicted of killing a 13-year-old girl in Panama City in 2008.
Matthew Lee Caylor was sentenced to the death penalty for the murder of Melinda Hinson in a room at the Valu-Lodge Motel on U.S. 98. He also received life in prison for sexual battery.
After he was arrested on an unrelated matter, Caylor admitted to investigators that he had killed the girl and left her body under the motel room bed.
The conviction was appealed on a number of issues, but the Florida Supreme Court upheld Caylor's conviction and death sentence Thursday.

Inmate who raped, murdered teen ready for execution
PANAMA CITY -- The man convicted of raping and killing a 13-year-old girl and hiding her body under the bed of his motel room wants to fire his attorney and discontinue all appeals of his murder conviction and death sentence, according to court records.
Matthew Caylor, 38, has been on death row since he was convicted in 2009 of raping and killing 13-year-old Melinda Hinson in a Panama City motel room. In letters to his attorney and Judge James Fensom, Caylor said he’s ready to give Hinson’s family what they want.
“I ask that you consider my request and allow me to move on to whatever is next,” Caylor wrote. “It has to be better than the last 38 years here.”
Fensom ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Caylor, according to the Clerk of Courts’ website. Caylor’s next court hearing is scheduled for July 11.

I welcome every DR-inmate who seriously wants to volunteer. It should be honored by a final cigarette or an extra desert that they stop wasting money and affecting the lives of the MVS.
No murder can be so cruel that there are not still useful imbeciles who do gloss over the murderer and apologize.
Let us have done with him. In the most expeditious manner possible.
