    Rocky Ali Beamon - Florida

    Bruce Hunsicker

Man sentenced to death for homemade shank murder

    By Staff Report

Rocky Ali Beamon was sentenced to death in Jackson County for first-degree premeditated murder, the State Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

The conviction and sentence arose from the July 5, 2012, murder of Bruce Hunsicker at the Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads.

Beamon and Hunsicker were both inmates, and subsequent confessions by Beamon revealed that the motive for the murder was primarily Hunsicker’s status as a sex offender, according to a press release. Hunsicker also owed Beamon money.

After watching the victim for several days to learn his schedule, Beamon killed Hunsicker in the shower area of the prison dormitory by approaching him from behind, choking him and stabbing him 80 times with a homemade shank.

Beamon then rinsed himself off and flushed the shank, a towel and a pair of boxers, after which he proceeded to dinner.

Beamon entered a guilty plea to first-degree premeditated murder and waived his right to a jury trial for guilt and sentencing. A penalty phase judge trial was then held on Dec. 17, 2018.

The state presented evidence of the heinousness of the killing as well as details regarding Beamon’s prior criminal history, which included 2005 convictions for murder, kidnapping and robbery in Hillsborough County for which Beamon was sentenced to life in prison.

Christopher N. Patterson, Circuit Judge of the 14th Judicial Circuit, determined that death was the appropriate sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Inspector General’s Office of the Department of Corrections with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Assistant State Attorney Clifton Drake was responsible for the prosecution, with assistance from Assistant State Attorney Jack Schlechter and Chief Assistant State Attorney Bill Bishop.

All three attorneys are employed by the 1st Judicial Circuit but were cross-designated with the 14th Judicial Circuit for the prosecution of this case.

Serving Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton counties, State Attorney Bill Eddins also indicated that Rocky Beamon is under investigation for an additional killing that occurred in January of 2017 while Beamon was incarcerated at the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution.

The state intends to seek an indictment for first-degree murder in that case and also intends to seek a death sentence.

Florida man on death row for murdering cellmate indicted in death of another cellmate

A man who has already been sentenced to death for killing an inmate in July 2012 was indicted Thursday on charges connected to the death of another inmate at the Santa Rosa County Jail in January 2017.

The State Attorney's Office announced Thursday that Rocky Ali Beamon, 41, was indicted by a Santa Rosa County grand jury on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder.

The charge stems from a Jan. 22, 2017, incident where Beamon allegedly killed his cellmate, 27-year-old Nicholas Anderson.

Prosecutors say shortly after the midnight inmate count, Beamon bound Anderson and strangled him in their cell. He also allegedly used a homemade weapon to cut the man's neck.

The charge carries a penalty of either death or life in prison. The State Attorney's Office will make a decision on whether to seek the death penalty in the case within the next 30 days, according to a news release. Prosecutors previously told the News Journal the state intended to seek the death sentence in the case if a grand jury indicted Beamon.

Beamon was sentenced to death in January for a separate incident where he killed his cellmate at Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads on July 5, 2012. In that incident, Beamon watched the victim, Bruce Hunsicker, for several days to learn his schedule, and then killed him by choking him and stabbing him 80 times in the shower area of the prison dormitory with a homemade shank.

Beamon then rinsed himself off and flushed the shank, a towel and a pair of boxers before proceeding to dinner.

Beamon had been serving, and is still serving, a life sentence for murder in a 2005 case in Hillsborough County.

Death Row Inmate Pleads Guilty To Murdering Cellmate

An inmate already on death row has pleaded guilty to murdering his cellmate.

Rocky Ali Beamon entered guilty plea to first degree premeditated murder for the January 2017 murder of inmate Nicholas Anderson.

Beamon and Anderson were cellmates at the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution. Beamon punched the victim in the face, tied his hands and feet together, and strangled him with bed sheets. Beamon also stabbed the Anderson in the neck with a homemade weapon, but the cause of death was strangulation.

The State Attorney is seeking the death penalty for Beamon, and he faces a minimum sentence of life in prison. Since Beamon waived his right to a jury trial to determine his sentence, he will be sentenced by Judge Darlene Dickey. The sentenced date has not yet been set.

Beamon is current on death row for the July 2012 murder of a sex offender inmate at the Apalachee Correctional Institution in Jackson County, Florida. He is also serving a life sentence for murder in a 2005 case in Hillsborough County, Florida.

Florida inmate already on death row gets 2nd death sentence for killing cellmate in 2017

    By Colin Warren-Hicks
    Pensacola News Journal

A Florida inmate already on death row for murdering a fellow inmate in 2012 has received a second death sentence, this time for killing his cellmate at the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution in Milton in 2017.

Rocky Ali Beamon, 41, was sentenced to death last week by Circuit Court Judge Darlene Dickey on the charge of first-degree premeditated murder for the killing of 27-year-old Nicholas Anderson, according to a news release from State Attorney Bill Eddins.

In August, Beamon pleaded guilty to charges related to Anderson’s murder.

The two men were cellmates at the Santa Rosa Correctional Institution when Anderson was found bound and strangled in their cell shortly after midnight Jan. 22, 2017. Beamon had also used a homemade shank to cut Anderson’s throat, according to authorities.

Beamon was previously sentenced to death for the first-degree premeditated murder of another former inmate with whom he had been incarcerated with at the Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads in July 2012.

Beamon said he killed the man, Bruce Hunsicker, mainly because Hunsicker was a sex offender, according to Eddins. Beamon choked Hunsicker and stabbed him 80 times — using a shank — in the shower area of the prison dormitory.

At the time, Beamon was already serving a life sentence for a 2005 murder case from Hillsborough County.

Murdering a cellmate isn't a good thing, let alone two. Hence why it is murder!
