Potential Death Penalty for Jordan Destinee Guzman and Anthony Damion McCloud in 2020 CA Triple Murder

Roommate, boyfriend arrested in California triple homicide

    AP

HEMET, Calif. (AP) — Police have identified a 20-year-old woman and her boyfriend who are suspected of killing three of her roommates, who were found dead inside a Southern California home.

Hemet’s Interim Police Chief Eddie Pust said Friday that the 20-year-old woman, Jordan Guzman, lived at the home and had a “dispute over a rental agreement” prior to the slayings.

Guzman and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Anthony McCloud, were arrested Thursday in Las Vegas after they allegedly stole one of the victim’s cars to flee. They are being held on $2 million bail each in Nevada awaiting extradition on three counts of murder.

The women — Trinity Clyde, 18; Wendy Lopez-Araiza, 46 and her daughter, Genesis Lopez-Araiza, 21 — were discovered dead Wednesday in the Hemet home about 76 miles (122 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles.

Wendy Lopez-Araiza’s husband came home from work Wednesday to find one of the victims covered in blood and called 911, Pust said at a news conference.

The chief said there was evidence of blunt force trauma and strangulation. There was no indication of a firearm being used in the deaths.

Pust said he did not know how long Guzman had lived at the home or how the killings unfolded.

It was not immediately clear if Guzman and McCloud had attorneys who could speak on their behalf

Hemet police on Thursday said two people had been arrested but would not name them.

Rodney Clyde told KNBC-TV that his daughter, Trinity, had planned to rent a room at the home on Rabbit Peak Way. The suspects allegedly stole Clyde’s vehicle to drive to Las Vegas.

“I just bought her paint yesterday,” he said. “That was my baby. That was my kid.”

Hemet is a city of about 85,000 residents in the San Jacinto Valley area of Riverside County.

Defendants in Hemet homicides could face death penalty

    By Brian Rokos
    The Press-Enterprise

The couple accused of killing three people in a Hemet home on Feb. 19 were waiting for their victims and robbed them, according to the charges filed against them by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

Jordan Destinee Guzman, 20, and Anthony Damion McCloud, 18, on Friday, Feb. 28 were each charged with three counts of murder with sentencing enhancements that could make them eligible for the death penalty if convicted as charged. Those enhancements were lying in wait, murder in a commission of a robbery and committing multiple murders, Superior Court records show.

District Attorney Mike Hestrin has not publicly announced whether he intends to seek the death penalty. Guzman and her boyfriend are in custody in Las Vegas awaiting extradition.

They are accused of killing Wendy Lopez-Araiza, 46, and daughter Genesis Lopez-Araiza, 21, in their Rabbit Peak home, and a friend who was visiting, Trinity Clyde, 18, of Hemet. Guzman was a boarder there and was in a rental dispute, Hemet Police Chief Eddie Pust said.

Police said the suspects fled after the slayings and were spotted at an apartment complex in Las Vegas on Feb. 21. They were arrested when they left the residence and got in Clyde’s car, which they had stolen, Pust said.

Woman, man ordered to stand trial in Hemet triple murder case

    By Brian Rokos
    The Press-Enterprise

A couple accused of strangling and bludgeoning to death three people in Hemet in 2020 were ordered by a judge at a preliminary hearing on Friday, March 11, to stand trial in the death penalty case.

Jordan Destinee Guzman, 22, and boyfriend Anthony Damion McCloud, 20, have each been charged with three counts of murder. Special circumstances of lying in wait, murder in the commission of a robbery and multiple murders make the pair eligible for the death penalty if convicted as charged.

Guzman and McCloud will be re-arraigned on April 22 in Superior Court in Riverside. They have pleaded not guilty.

The killings happened on Feb. 19, 2020, at a home in the 1400 block of Rabbit Peak over a rental dispute involving Guzman, Hemet Police Chief Eddie Pust said. The victims were Wendy Lopez-Araiza, 46; Genesis Lopez-Araiza, 21; and Trinity Clyde, 18, of Hemet, a family friend who was visiting.

Guzman and McCloud stole Clyde's car, Pust said, and drove it to Las Vegas, where they were arrested.
