Except people aren't social distancing and its spreading like wildfire. Stupid, morons having play dates in the parks here in Toronto and now they are all locked, and if you go in you get a $5,000 fine. It was fine when people were just going for a walk, but some idiots think they are untouchable and are so vapid and self absorbed that they only think about themselves, and not the people who are vulnerable and could die...sigh.
And what about what the healthcare workers are going thru? Today it was announced that 51 doctors in Italy have died from coronavirus.
Here where I live people who have stage 4 colon cancer and breast cancer have had their surgeries delayed up to 8 weeks and they are saying do not go to the hospitals unless you have difficulty breathing or chest pain. That's it.
The only people saying go out and restart the economy are billionaires and right wing media that spew conspiracy theories.

Yes that’s true people aren’t but they should. However, vast shutdowns aren’t really the answer in this country. This is a country that doesn’t really go on martial law type lockdowns we’ve never been this close to socialism here it’s really irritating me. Where I live in New Jersey, Murphy is just as much to blame for the cases being spread like Wildfire here. Aaron said it best. Murphy should’ve implemented a statewide order banning travel to and from New York. The whole country is always having to deal with the liberal elitism that comes from California and New York. Cuomo and Newsom have really made the country falter over this virus.

Cuomo isn't as bad as De Blasio.

He’s not George Pataki either. Pataki probably would’ve did a reasonable thing halted travel to and from New York City and not shutter everything in Upstate New York.

I don't think Murphy can unilaterally shut down Port Authority travel. He would need the consent of Cuomo and the ACLU.

The ACLU is a protection industry for thugs now. They work hand in hand with the socialist party of America which was formally the Democratic Party of America pre Obama. I want to see them challenge Gina Raimundos door to door Martial law in Rhode Island. She’s going way further then what Desantis proposed for New York area travelers. I can’t argue about this anymore the American public has embraced socialism a lot. That’s why many Democrats who were once moderate have become very liberal.

Here is the temporary 1000 bed hospital created at Javits Centre in NY.

As of this morning, 519 New Yorkers had lost their lives to COVID-19, up from 385 yesterday and from 285 on Wednesday. There are a total of 44,635 cases across the state now, 25,398 of which are in New York City.

Of this total number in the state, 6,481 are currently hospitalized, 1,583 of which are in the ICU. This last figure is the most troubling, as those ICU beds come with the ever-hard-to-find ventilators. As has been previously reported, New York State has a total of 53,000 hospital beds and needs a projected 140,000. Likewise, it has 3,000 ICU beds and projects needing 4,000.

If Gina could extend the ban to people from CT and make it permanent, we would install her as governor for life, at least according to the people living near the beaches. As for "martial law" about the only things I can't go out and get are a haircut and a massage. And I can probably get house calls on both. So many businesses are deemed "essential" it is just a big pile of suck to be a small local business that is shut that competes in one segment with a Big Box that is allowed to stay open.

You don't really seem to get it. Without stay at home orders way too many people will continue to roam the streets, the beaches and whatever you have in your surroundings. Despite the fact every single day over a hundred people die in my small country (and that's only the ones that got tested - those who didn't get a test but did die from corona, are not in the statistics, and it's all the elderly because there is no point testing them because a hospital won't help them anyway due to a lack of capacity), people kept flooding the beaches until the police started handing out fines. Too many people are too irresponsible and thus you can't refrain from tough measures. Accept it, or have millions dying. Already people that could have survived with the right treatment are dying because the hospitals are overwhelmed.

Even if you don't contaminate others when you get the disease, you may still need a hospital bed robbing other patients with heart attacks or car accidents (regular care without fault of their own) from a bed. This is not an individual issue. In many countries practically all hospitals have stopped regular care because of this damn virus and people behaving irresponsibly. As a result for example cancer treatments and surgeries are postponed - in some cases with a lethal result. The death toll of corona will stretch way beyond corona patients.

If you think your personal freedom for a week or two is more important than the survival of many others, then there is something deeply wrong with your morals. And socialism has nothing to do with that, so wage your ideological war somewhere else while others are doing their best to end this whole thing.

Alfred, with all due respect it’s not just for one week here its way longer it’s indefinite. Second of all the death the toll in the United States is around 1400 people out of the 104,000 cases. So don’t lecture me on my morals every area has a different problem with it and your yourself are in another country.

Schmutz, what I was referring to was her order of going door to door and having people turn over their information about whether or not they’ve have been to New York or are from New York that is the textbook definition of Martial law.
