Arthur Brown, Jr. - Texas Execution - March 9, 2023

    Summary of Offense:

Arthur Brown was convicted of the execution-style slaying of four people inside a Houston residence in 1992. Brown and two accomplices entered the home of Jose Tovar and tied him and five others with bed sheets and placed each in seperate rooms. He and co-defendant Marion Dudley then shot each in the back of the head. Killed were Tovar, Jessica Quinones, Tovar's 19-year-old daughter-in-law who was seven months pregnant and Audrey Brown, a neighbor of Tovar. Two others survived. Police said Brown had been buying drugs from Tovar and his wife and that the shootings were related to their transactions. Brown was arrested four months later in possession of a loaded 9mm pistol.

Brown was sentenced to death in Harris County in June 1994.

Co-defendant Tony Dunson was sentenced to life in prison.

Co-defendant Marion Dudley was sentenced to death and eventually executed on January 25, 2006. For more on Dudley, see: http://www.cncpunishment.com/forums/...anuary-25-2006

Arthur Brown, Jr. v. Rick Thaler

A man on Texas death row for his involvement in a 1992 drug-related Houston shooting that left four people dead, including a seven-months-pregnant woman, and two others wounded has lost a federal court appeal, moving him closer to execution.

Arthur Brown Jr. unsuccessfully argued to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals poor legal help at his trial in Houston prevented jurors from hearing about how his mother's alcohol abuse when she was pregnant contributed to his behavior.

The court ruling Tuesday showed Brown and three companions travelled from Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Houston to buy cocaine and marijuana from two of the victims, who had sold drugs to them in the past. Two of the shooting survivors testified against Brown. One of Brown's partners, Marion Dudley, was executed in 2006.

The TDCJ just updated their scheduled execution list, and Arthur Brown has been given an execution date - 10/29/2013

And although we already know the others have execution dates, Jamie McCoskey and Suzanne Basso have been added to the list as well.

It's good to see the current Harris County DA working on clearing out the backlog that had been allowed to build up under his predecessor.

There are many death row inmates of Harris County who exhausted their appeals even more than a year ago! The district attorney shall ask for more execution dates for other inmates when he wants to be more consequent than his predecessor!

I took a look at the TDJC execution page, and Arthur Brown has been taken off the list, unfortunately.
