I cannot be 100% sure, but I think it might have something to do with evidence. This is cited in a recent filing in Harris County.

Relating to the procedure for an application for a writ of habeas corpus based on relevant scientific evidence.

Thanks FFM!! I bet that her husband wouldn't have withdrawn the execution date, hopefully this won't take too long to resolve.

Has anyone seen a news article on why this date was withdrawn yet? I can't find anything to confirm tpg's theory.

Today, the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals denied Brown's petition requesting funds for 'clemency proceedings and a mitigation specialist.'

Alabama man on Texas death row for 1992 quadruple homicide loses appeal

HOUSTON, Texas — An Alabama man on Texas death row for the drug-related slayings of four people in Houston more than two decades ago has lost a federal court appeal and moved closer to execution.

Arthur Brown, who turns 44 next week, argued he should be provided $7,500 to pay for a mitigation specialist to help with his clemency petition.

The specialist estimated the investigation would cost $20,000. A federal district court refused, and the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday upheld the lower court's rejection.

Evidence showed Brown, from Tuscaloosa, was part of a ring shuttling drugs between Texas and Alabama.

Six people were shot, four fatally, in what was seen as an attempt in June 1992 to eliminate a Houston couple as middlemen in the drug deals.

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Brown and two other men shot and killed two men and two women, including a 19-year-old who was seven months pregnant at the time.

Alabama man on Texas death row loses Supreme Court appeal

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused an appeal from Alabama man on Texas death row for the drug-related slayings of four people in Houston nearly 23 years ago.

Attorneys for 44-year-old Arthur Brown went to the high court after lower federal courts rejected arguments Brown should be provided $7,500 to pay for a mitigation specialist to help with his clemency petition. The specialist estimated the investigation would cost $20,000.

The justices, without comment, refused Monday to review his case.

Evidence showed Brown, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and known as "Squirt," was part of a ring shuttling drugs between Texas and Alabama.

Six people were shot in June 1992, four fatally, in what was seen as an attempt to eliminate a Houston couple as middlemen in the drug deals.

Alabama man on Texas death row wins court review

HOUSTON (AP) - Texas' highest criminal court says a death row inmate's contention that false or misleading testimony was used at his trial 22 years ago in Houston should be reviewed.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday sent the case of 45-year-old Arthur Brown Jr. back to the Harris County court where Brown in 1993 was condemned for participating in the slayings of four people in Houston.

Brown, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was identified as part of a ring shuttling drugs from Texas to Alabama.

He's challenging testimony that two guns recovered in Alabama and tied to him were used in the slayings of 32-year-old Jose Tovar; his wife's 17-year-old son, Frank Farias; Farias' 19-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Quinones, who was seven months pregnant; and 21-year-old neighbor Audrey Brown.

    Two others shot survived.
