The Sudden and Unexplained Rapture of Americas Federal Judiciary

The Sudden and Unexplained Rapture of America’s Federal Judiciary

    By Mike

COVID-19 is sweeping throughout the world and devastating the elderly population of mostly Europe and America. While the entire world’s attention is focused on this epidemic there was another pandemic writhing through America. The apparent Rapture of the senior homes that are America’s judiciary. Between the period of February 29th to April 24th seventeen federal judges passed away. Which is a 340% increase of the same period last year where five judges died. It wasn’t until May 26rd of 2019, when that year reached seventeen deceased federal judges. 2020 reached this number on April 5. This figure is a stark reminder of the ill health of the most powerful people in this nation. The people who dictate the worthiness of every lawsuit and conviction are starting to ascend or descend from this earth in a now rapid pace. This is unpreceded, never before has the judiciary lost so many members in a fifty-five-day period. This period of fifty-five days however has been ignored by the media and the public at large. Now is it a coincidence that this death rate started to rocket after Covid-19 started to spread in America? Yes and no. It is confirmed that at least one of the judges died from Covid-19 so far. I believe that this seems to be a tragic natural acceleration of the deteriorating health of the Federal Judiciary.

I had to manually check for Judicial deaths in 2019 since no service seems to have kept the tracks of deaths after 2017. Prior to 2017 however the government has kept up with number changes over the years. I have pieced together some numbers on this Rapture. Twenty-eight judges have died since the start of 2020, in comparison to 2019 we are at the same exact death count and time scale. 2019 had its twenty seventh death on September 7 and twenty-eighth on the 15th of the same month. 2020 had its twenty seventh on September 2 and twenty eighth on the 10th. This completely bizarre bump, in the current year leveled out and we are exactly in line with 2019. How is this possible? It beats me.

Going back to this spike you may be wondering what caused it. COVID was starting to spread at the time Now again you may believe that this is solely due to Covid-19 however when you look at the numbers it tells a different story. As I mentioned before we are exactly in line with last year’s death count and after the spike, deaths dropped to their normal levels. So, unless COVID was being directed at federal judges for that time period, but than was inexplicitly warded off from the judiciary it can’t be the cause.

Moving on to the morbidly of this spike brings us to two federal courts. From February 3rd to the end of the spike three judges from the Southern District of New York died. Now the Southern District of New York is a large court with over 28 active seats alone and an army of sitting senior judges this isn’t as much of a blow. Looking at the worst hit court of brings us to the Middle District of Pennsylvania which started the year of 2018 with 14 sitting judges. As of today, there are only 8 still alive. In an 18-month period the court lost 6 judges with 2 dying each year up to today. Two of those judges died in this 40-day period. The longest serving judge to have died in the past two years was on the Middle District of Pennsylvania he was nominated by JFK.

This should further illustrate how old the courts are becoming. The average age of a Federal Judge is seventy plus, the average lifespan of an American is 76. The age of the judiciary has been increasing over the years, some courts compositions are starting to look like a parody of the God Emperor on his Golden Throne. For instance, half of the sitting judges on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals are over the age of 70, the oldest being 93. Now I don’t want to be morbid about this but when we have people attempting to be on these courts until their bodies wither away to nothing. This is concerning as to why it’s even being allowed.

Looking back to over the past few years we can see that numbers have fluctuated over time. For instance, in 2006 and 08 a total of eighteen judges died in those years, a number that was already reached by April of 2020. It remains to be seen what the final toll this year will be for the Judiciary, historically the deadliest years was 2019 in which thirty-two died. 2020 seems to be on track to be the deadliest or at least tied if trends hold.

You missed one. There was another judge in the western district in PA that died earlier this year or late last year. Can't remember the name at the moment; I will edit later if I remember.

Anyway, this was long expected. The population is getting old, and with that comes disease of all kinds. Join that with a pandemic and the result is widespread death.

Donald Emil Ziegler you must be thinking of. He retired 17 years ago, missed him because of that.

How did you track them all? FOIA? I can only remember about 10 or so of these judges from news articles or other media; I'm not aware of any sources that keep track of when these people cease living.

I track many them through the recent deaths on Wikipedia page. That's a crap shoot however since some of these deaths aren't announced for long periods of time. I also periodically check local news sources when I notice that a judges name has disappeared from case dockets for no listed reason.

Can anyone even recall the last time two active judges died within two weeks of each other? Judiciary death rate seems rather be habitual at this point.

There were 2 in NJ that died within the 2 week time frame. Can't remember their names currently. It's been a few years now.

I was talking about Active judges, 8 seniors died in March. Active Judges dying is rare.

It seems a new spike is developing though 5 judges have died this month already.

I'm finding it ironic that within 10 days of posting this thread three judges have already died. What's going on?
