What happened to his final cert petition? No action taken by SCOTUS since June of last year.

Sometimes the court sits on stuff, particularly if they're awaiting the resolution of another case that could have bearing on it or if they're awaiting proceedings from a lower court after they've ordered fact finding.
Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next products.

"They will hurt you. They will hurt your grandma, these people. The root cause of this is there's no discipline in the homes, they don't go to school, you know, they live off the government, no personal accountability, and they just beat people up for no reason, and it's disgusting." - Former Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters

Is Bowie County reliable on setting execution dates?

Bowie County has sent 17 people to death row and 5 have been execution, the last being Lee Taylor in 2011. Bowie County has two other inmates on Death row: Billy Tracy is at the Fifth Circuit and Julius Murphy exhausted appeals in 2020 but his case is being stalled by the TCCA due to Atkins

Canales and his co defendant William Speer should both go this year. Speer is under Harris County however so he probably wont be executed. I hope the Bowie County DA is better than the DAs in Harris and Travis Counties and will do his job.
