Neil candidate quality really doesn't matter anymore. This nation is so partisan to the point that slapping a D or an R infront of a name is guaranteed seat for whatever or whoever is running in that race.
Again, an actual corpse can win a state senate seat in Pennsylvania. A dead pimp in Neveda can win a state senate seat. An open pedophile that was imprisoned for grooming, child pornography and eventually impregnating said teenager was once again reelected to a state senate seat in VA. Canidate quality means nothing at all.

You can run a turd with a D infront of its name vs some charity aid worker and the race would be called in a minute for the turd. It's delusional to believe that at this point this system isn't broken beyond repair.

Punishing somehow seems unfair to it, and it is certain that imagining ‘punishment’ and ‘being supposed to punish’ hurts it, arouses fear in it." Friedrich Nietzsche

Kinda ironic the only Democrat governor to loose reelection this cycle was the one who spiked a death penalty repeal bill. The rest who signed or instituted a moratorium easily won re-election.

OKLAHOMA had a 150 day pause turn into a SEVEN YEAR sinkhole over a minor drug mixup. The death penalty won't even exist in 7 years now. If Alabama tries to resume, the attorneys will kvetch about how it's too soon and the 11th Circus will interfere.

It's over. Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Arizona, and Georgia will never execute again. Mark my words. No state is going to resume and we now have 3 active states. And OK will have nothing after they clear the backlog, assuming Drummond doesn't sabotage everything. Missouri has very few inmates left. This is it. It's OVER.

Arkansas is in permanent limbo. SC paralyzed itself with its retarded legislation. NE was a one time show. Federal will be commuted by Sleepy Joe. South Dakota has one inmate left. Mississippi will never surmount the lethal injection litigation. I wish I'd never gotten aboard this sinking ship because now I get to watch it sink real time.
I mean yeah I agree that it's obvious that the death penalty is on its way out, but I wouldn't be THAT pessimistic about it. Why won't Georgia ever execute again? Isn't the only thing stopping them that stupid covid protocol their Supreme Court has yet to rule on? The Alabama moratorium may not be as bad as it appears. Kay Ivey is as based of a pro DP governor as they come. It's obvious they have serious problems with carrying out executions. They can't keep scheduling executions like they are and not being able to carry them out. Hopefully they'll figure out whatever they need, whether it be more training, longer execution warrants, whatever. Unless Florida is having issues obtaining execution drugs or something else we don't know about, I could see DeSantis throwing a token execution here and there. Tennessee I don't know about. Arizona yea they are likely done I'd say. I don't think sleepy Joe will commute, because that would mean commuting Dylan roof which he won't do. Although there will for sure be no executions under his presidency, and quite possibly never again.

Merrick Garland has fought in court to have Dzokhar Tsarnaev's death sentence reinstated, and he is actively seeking the death penalty against Sayfullo Saipov. There won't be executions under Biden, but a blanket commutation is unlikely.

We are now into the 4 month of the year and there are only 3 serious execution dates scheduled.

With Texas passing "Mental Health" protections for their DR inmates and county DA's now handing out murder charges like candy to political opponents(Daniel Perry) it's looking like we are really towards the end of them ever executing again.

Alabama is still seven months into 'Likely" being able to execute inmates by gas any moment now. YOU HAVE TO TRUST THE PLAN!

Mississippi has gone the rout of Kentucky and Indiana and just ghosted the whole process.

The Carolinas are still passing bills that a random judge will strike down, and still refuse to do anything about that.

Tennessee's has thrown in the towel, they won't be doing any again.

It's over in Oklahoma they will continue to delay and stall now they have a "liberal" AG.

Again another year and no real restarts, outside of whatever limited actions DeSantis is doing. This year looks like it will be even worse then the year before, 2024 likely will not even breaching single digits.

We're off to the fastest start since 2016. 10 executions already. Missouri likely has 3 more. Oklahoma 2 more. Florida some more. Texas might get three or four more. Alabama is currently seeking a date. We'll probably get more than last year's, although we do look to be fizzling out like in 2016.

    I often cite these statements:

https://content.time.com/time/subscr...899574,00.html (1967: "By inches, the death penalty is dying in the U.S." — Time)

https://news.google.com/newspapers?i...&pg=3786,38609 (1972: "New laws unlikely on death penalty" — Associated Press)

https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/congres...enalty/8361740 (2010: José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has told an anti-death penalty conference in Geneva there should be a global moratorium on executions as of 2015. Zapatero said ending all penal executions within five years was "an achievable goal".)

Sometimes I read the three articles entirely when I want to laugh.

In some future, for the same purpose, this forum might become an inexhaustible resource.
