That Helen is the Question of the day
12th Stay in a Row
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has halted the scheduled execution later this month of a man convicted of killing a Houston police officer 28 years ago.
It's the fourth execution stopped by the court over the past month. Different issues were raised in each.
Fifty-eight-year-old Robert Jennings was set for lethal injection Sept. 14 for fatally shooting Elston Howard, a Houston police vice officer, at an adult bookstore in Houston in July 1988.
Jennings' attorneys have questioned whether jury instructions during the punishment phase of his trial were proper.
Jennings was on parole at the time after serving 10 years of a 30-year sentence for robbery.
Witnesses said the officer was arresting a bookstore clerk for showing movies without a license when Jennings walked in and opened fire.

"There is a point in the history of a society when it becomes so pathologically soft and tender that among other things it sides even with those who harm it, criminals, and does this quite seriously and honestly. Punishing somehow seems unfair to it, and it is certain that imagining ‘punishment’ and ‘being supposed to punish’ hurts it, arouses fear in it." Friedrich Nietzsche
Texas needs to locate a compound pharmacy, that mix chemicals ordered under privacy shield law. Until then no company will not discuss selling chemicals to the state of Texas. Helen you're right it's not worth it to pharmaceutical comany. Most of these companies have secret labs and contractors to provide these chemicals. Texas is acting like this is their first time obtaining chemicals. Someone drop the ball. Texas has another option. Contact any state who has chemicals without any executions pending and close to expiring. Just an option.
At this point I think the state just isn't challenging the appeals to minimize the appearance of lacking drugs. I guess we'll find out for sure when barney fuller comes along since he's a volunteer

The 5th Circuit denied stays of execution based on the potency of the pentobarbital that was going to be used on our death row inmates. Not that it matters now anyway.

Unfortunately, this is in Harris County. Jennings would and should be ripe for a new warrant, but the former crown jewel of capital punishment has been brought low by a DA who insults her office by blatant refusal to do her job. Kim Ogg must be voted out.
