A suspect is sitting in the Tuscaloosa County jail without bond after his arrest on capital murder charges stemming from a May fire at a mobile home that killed two people, authorities said Tuesday.

Patrick Darnell Campos, 39, was charged with two counts of capital murder in the deaths of Eric Shane Hatter and Shelli Wallace, said Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s Violent Crimes Unit.

Deputies were dispatched May 11 to a mobile home in the 1900 block of Garber Street in the Holt community by family members who came to the home to check on their kin after they did not respond to phone calls and found the home was burned to the ground.

Authorities determined the fire, which they believed was set either May 9 or May 10, was the result of foul play.

Evidence was sent to a state lab for forensic testing, which led to Campos being developed as a suspect, Kennedy said.

Anyone with information on Hatter or Wallace was asked to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 205- 464-8690.
