Hawkins, Thurman, Bastian, Williams and Parks Charged in 2022 AL Slaying of Shauna Terry and Damien Bell

Bonifay woman arrested on two murder charges

    Dothan Eagle Staff Reports

A Florida woman has been arrested on murder charges related to two people reported missing in Dothan in early July.

Dothan Police say Sheena Marie Thurman, 35, of Bonifay, has been charged with one count of murder in Dothan and one count of open murder in Holmes County, Fla. Thurman was booked into the Houston County Jail early Saturday.

Police believe the bodies of two individuals buried on property on Long Round Bay Road in Bonifay may possibly be those of Shauna Terry and her boyfriend, Damien Bell. Positive identification will be determined through forensic testing.

On July 11, Dothan Police received a report from family members that Terry and Bell had not been seen or heard from since July 8.

An investigation determined the pair left from the motel on Montgomery Highway where they were staying. A lookout was issued for the two along with the red sport utility vehicle they were traveling in.

On July 28, investigators received information that led authorities to Long Round Bay Road in Bonifay. Holmes County Sheriff John Tate was notified of the information and a joint investigation between the Holmes County
Sheriff’s Office and the Dothan Police Department began.

Information led authorities to believe one or more bodies were buried on the property on Long Round Bay Road. Holmes County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at that location.

Cadaver dogs were brought in and indicated to the presence of human remains. Excavation began and the bodies of two individuals were located.

Dothan Police also executed a search warrant in the 600 block of Dutch Street in Dothan and processed the location for evidence related to this incident.

Even though the investigation is in its early stage, police believe one individual may have been murdered in Dothan and the other individual may have been murdered at the Long Round Bay Road location in Bonifay.

Last of 5 murder suspects arrested in Georgia

    By WTVY News Staff

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - In July of 2022, the Dothan Police Department along with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department conducted a joint investigation into the disappearance of two individuals from Dothan.

Shauna Terry and her boyfriend, Damien Bell were reported missing by family members.

During the joint investigation, it was learned the two individuals were shot and killed: one in Dothan, and one in Holmes County, Florida.

Both bodies were then buried in Holmes County.

A total of five suspects were identified as being involved in this incident. Four of those suspects were arrested during the days surrounding the investigation.

The fifth suspect, MacAuthur Mike Hawkins, has been on the run since then attempting to evade capture.

On Wednesday morning, April 26, the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force from Atlanta took MacAuthur Mike Hawkins into custody near a residence he was living at in Decatur, Georgia without incident.

Hawkins was using a false identity living with an individual portraying to be someone he was not.

Hawkins will be held in Georgia until extradition to the Houston County Jail can be arranged.

Once he arrives at the Houston County Jail, he will be formally charged with one count of Capital Murder, one count of Kidnapping First Degree, and one count of Abuse of a Corpse.

    He will have no bond.

Double murder suspect pleads not guilty

By Richard Everett and Aaron Dixon
    WDHN News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A suspect connected with a complex double murder pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning in a Houston County Courtroom, demanding a preliminary hearing.

MacAuthur Hawkins was on the run for nearly ten months from law enforcement before his arrest on April 26 in Decatur, Georgia. He is charged with capital murder-kidnapping, corpse abuse, and first-degree kidnapping.

Hawkins is accused of assisting in the July 2022 double murder of a Dothan couple, Damien Bell and Shauna Terry.

Earlier this year, two of the suspects in the murder, Sheena Thurman and David Bastian, the first and second persons arrested, pointed the finger at Devante Williams, another suspect, and told police that he was the one directing traffic in the murder case of Terry and Bell and that it all started over a stolen gun.

Bastian told police that Terry was shot in the head by Thurman and later buried. Bell’s and Terry’s bodies were found on Thurman’s property in Bonifay.
Hawkins, Thurman, Bastian, Williams, and Joshua Parks face murder charges. At the same time, two other suspects are accused of hindering the prosecution after allegedly providing vehicles and shelter to Williams and Hawkins.

On Tuesday, a judge ordered that Hawkins do a mental evaluation to decide if Hawkins is ready to state and also ordered a test to be done to look at his mental state at the time of the murders.

Judge denies bond for suspect in July 2022 double murder

    By Robert Smith
    WDHN News

(WDHN) — MacArthur Mike Hawkins is one of five suspects charged with capital murder, first-degree kidnapping, and abuse of a corpse in the deaths of Damion Bell and Shauna Terry.

A couple went missing from the Adams Inn Motel on July 8th but police didn’t get involved until three days later and got information from someone who knew details about the murder over two weeks later.

That information led investigators to Sheena Thurman, David Bastian, Joshua Parks, Davante Williams, and MacArthur Hawkins who was on the run until April of this year.

The state laid out their case Friday morning believing Hawkins was the main guy in the alleged murder.

They say he and Williams went to the motel the couple were staying in to hold them at gunpoint and eventually kidnapped them to a home on Dutch Street – all over a gun that was allegedly stolen by Bell from Williams along with drugs.

Investigators believe Bell was murdered at the home on Dutch Street and was taken to Florida with his girlfriend where she was then killed on one of the other suspects Thurman’s property — both of them being buried there.

At the home on Dutch Street, investigators could smell a strong sense of cleaning materials as they believe two of the suspects who were living there were trying to clean up the mess. In Florida, on Thurman’s property, they found their bodies along with an excavator and a hammer that was used to assault bell and clothes that were burned.

Investigators say Hawkins was present at both murder scenes.

But Hawkins’s defense team argued that there was no video evidence of him at the hotel that week, no physical evidence from the Dutch street scene or the scene in Florida, and they didn’t search his electronics.

Hawkins is also not facing charges in Florida.

His defense was also fighting to get him a bond of $150,000 dollars citing how he has two small daughters, no history with felonies, and he’s been matched as a kidney donor for his father who is in need of one.

The state argued how he’s a danger to the community by holding a gun in someone’s face, if he was to commit a crime again he would try to cover it up and run, and how there is no documentation of being a matched donor.

The judge denied the bond but could reconsider if they received documentation that could save his father’s life.

The grand jury already returned an indictment.
