Trussville man charged with capital murder in Hoover slaying

HOOVER — A Trussville man has been arrested and charged with the Wednesday, August 3, slaying of a Hoover woman.

According to the Hoover Police Department (HPD), Skylar Jacquel Dorsey, 24, has been arrested for the murder of Sophia Nicole Zeigler.

Zeigler was inside the Marathon gas station located at 5423 Highway 280 in Hoover around 8:28 p.m. when she was killed.

“The Hoover 911 center received a call of a person shot inside the convenience store. Officers responded to the scene where they located an adult black female, Sophia Nicole Zeigler, suffering from a gunshot wound,” HPD Lieutenant Daniel Lowe stated in a press release. “Hoover Fire Department medics responded to the scene and pronounced Zeigler deceased. Witnesses reported Zeigler entered the store and was followed by a black male. A verbal argument between the two quickly escalated into a physical altercation during which Zeigler was shot …”

Detectives identified Dorsey as a suspect in the case and were determined to be an acquaintance of the victim. He was taken into custody in the 3200 block of Beech Avenue Southwest in Birmingham at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, by the United States Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Apprehension Task Force.

He is currently being held in the Hoover City Jail and will be transferred to the Shelby County Jail later today.

Dorsey is being charged with capital murder. He is being held without bond.
