A man's death row appeal hearing ended Friday
The latest hearing related to a man's death row appeal ended Friday.
District Judge Bobby Galvan heard final testimony in the appeal and will make recommendations to the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin. That court then will make a ruling on the appeal.
Ramirez was convicted of capital murder in 2008 for the July 19, 2004, stabbing of convenience store clerk Pablo Castro.
Castro was stabbed 29 times and robbed of $1.25 as he was taking out trash at a convenience store on Baldwin Boulevard.
Ramirez decided months ago to end the legal fight to appeal his conviction, but changed his mind in September when he discovered he had a paternal half-sister, who he said he wants to get to know.
Ramirez's appellate attorney Michael Gross has argued that Ramirez was depressed and suicidal when he initially decided to forego his appeal and expedite his execution
