    Killer asking for mercy?

    By The Black Sheartimes

After more than three decades on Georgia’s Death Row, convicted murderer Willie James Wilson isn’t ready to face a fate similar to that he gave two local men.

Wilson is scheduled Wednesday, June 13, to receive a hearing in Pierce County Superior Court asking a judge to overturn his two death sentences and pay lawyers from New York and Massachusetts for his defense. Wilson was sentenced here in February 1982 for the shooting deaths of Alfred Boatright, 64, and Morris Highsmith, 58, during a June 22, 1981 armed robbery at Boatright’s store in Bristol.

"I realize this may sound harsh, but as a father and former lawman, I really don't care if it's by lethal injection, by the electric chair, firing squad, hanging, the guillotine or being fed to the lions."

“There are lots of extremely smug and self-satisfied people in what would be deemed lower down in society, who also deserve to be pulled up. In a proper free society, you should be allowed to make jokes about absolutely anything.”

Willie Wilson trial moved to Coffee County

    By The Black Sheartimes

A Coffee County jury — not a local one — will make a determination next month on whether convicted killer Willie James Wilson is intellectually disabled.

The Times has learned Chief Superior Court Judge Dwayne Gillis has ruled the trial will take place in Coffee County Superior Court in Douglas.
