Facts of the Crime:
On June 4, 1981, was convicted by a jury of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of arson endangering persons, and one count of arson endangering property. The convictions were based on a 1980 incident in which Jones bound, gagged, and set fire to Karen Williams and Diane Williams in the basement of a house in Philadelphia. On June 6, 1985, a jury sentenced Jones to death based on its finding of three aggravating circumstances that outweighed its finding of one mitigating circumstance.
