Mitchell Willoughby - Kentucky Death Row

    Facts of the Crime:

Was sentenced to death on September 15, 1983 in Fayette County for the participation in the murder of three people with Leif Halvorsen, also under the death sentence. On January 13, 1983, the two men shot to death Jacqueline Greene, Joe Norman and Joey Durham in a Lexington apartment. That night they attempted to dispose of the bodies by throwing them from the Brooklyn Bridge in Jessamine County.

The female was shot eight times in the back of the head. They shot the younger male five times -- in back, testicles, right arm, left leg, and right temple. They shot the other male three times -- in the back, the chest, and in the back of his neck.

Leif Halvorsen was also sentenced to death.

Federal judge rejects new trial bid for Kentucky death row inmate

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (AP) — A Kentucky death row inmate has lost his bid for a new trial and to overturn his death sentences in the slayings of three people in central Kentucky.

U.S. District Judge David Bunning on Friday found no errors in the case of 55-year-old Mitchell Willoughby that would warrant overturning his convictions.

Willoughby was sentenced to death Sept. 15, 1983 in Fayette County for the participation in the murder of three people with 60-year-old Leif Halvorsen, who also faces execution.

Prosecutors say the two men shot to death Jacqueline Greene, Joe Norman and Joey Durham in a Lexington apartment on Jan. 13, 1983.

Prosecutors say that night they attempted to dispose of the bodies by throwing them from the Brooklyn Bridge in Jessamine County.

Condemned inmate asks judge to reconsider ruling

A Kentucky death row inmate is asking a federal judge to reconsider his decision to turn down a new trial and to overturn his death sentences in the slayings of three people in central Kentucky.

Attorneys for 55-year-old Mitchell Willoughby say in court filings that U.S. District Judge David Bunning erred in rejecting the appeal last month.

Willoughby was sentenced to death Sept. 15, 1983 in Fayette County for the participation in the murder of three people with 60-year-old Leif Halvorsen, who also faces execution.

Judge declines to reconsider death row appeal

A federal judge has turned down a request from a Kentucky death row inmate to reconsider his request for a new trial and to overturn his death sentences in the slayings of three people in central Kentucky.

U.S. District Judge David Bunning on Friday found that 55-year-old Mitchell Willoughby didn't raise any new issues in his request. Willoughby lost an initial appeal before Bunning in September.

Willoughby was sentenced to death Sept. 15, 1983, in Fayette County for the participation in the murder of three people with 60-year-old Leif Halvorsen, who also faces execution.
