    J.W. Ledford, Jr. - Georgia Execution - May 17, 2017




    Summary of Offense:

    Was sentenced to death in Murry County by a jury selected from Gordon County in November 1992 for the murder of a neighbor he had known all his life, Dr. Harry Johnston, Jr., 73. On January 31, 1992, Mr. Ledford went to the Johnston home and asked his wife, Antoinette, to speak to Mr. Johnston. He forced his way into the home at knife point, demanding money and guns. Mr. Johnston's body was found later, his head nearly cut off and a knife in his back.

    On December 19, 2014, Ledford filed an appeal before the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit over the apparent denial of his habeas petition in Federal District Court.

    Ledford's certiorari petition will come up for US Supreme Court conference on January 6th. So, he may well end up with an execution date in January or February.

    Maybe second next year, Georgia has a few in line for a early date next year. Talking all bets Georgia will lead the nation once again.
