McKINNEY, Texas — Jurors chose the death penalty Wednesday for a North Carolina parolee convicted of killing a sales agent inside a model home.

They deliberated for about three hours before handing down the punishment to Kosoul Chanthakoummane, 27.

Chanthakoummane was found guilty of capital murder last week by a Collin County jury that deliberated about 30 minutes before reaching a verdict.

His defense attorney stipulated that Chanthakoummane (chahn-THAH'-koo-mahn) fatally stabbed Sarah Walker in July 2006. But he tried to convince the jury that Chanthakoummane's life should be spared with witnesses who said he had been a model prisoner.

Walker was a top-seller for home builder D.R. Horton, earning free vacations for the high volume of brick-and-slab homes she closed.

She was stabbed 33 times and her body found by a house-hunting couple in the kitchen of a model home. The 40-year-old agent had been showing the home in McKinney, a fast-growing suburb of McMansions and retail strips about 30 miles north of Dallas.

Her slaying rattled real estate agents who work open houses alone and worried nearby residents living in the extravagant homes Walker sold.

Chanthakoummane had been paroled to Dallas to live with relatives after serving time in North Carolina for aggravated kidnapping and robbery convictions.

A McKinney police officer testified that Chanthakoummane admitted to going to the model home where the stabbing occurred but said he never saw anyone in the house.

At the time of his arrest, Chanthakoummane faced a parole violation warrant out of North Carolina.

Texas death row inmates lose at Supreme Court

HOUSTON — The U.S. Supreme Court has refused appeals from two men sent to Texas death row for Dallas-area slayings.

Thirty-year-old Kosoul Chanthakoummane (koh-SOHL' chahn-THAH'-koo-mahn) was a North Carolina parolee when he was arrested for the 2006 murder of 40-year-old real estate agent Sarah Walker. She'd been stabbed 33 times when found in the kitchen of a model home in McKinney, about 30 miles north of Dallas.

Thirty-one-year-old Yokamon Hearn was convicted of the 1998 slaying of 23-year-old Plano stockbroker Frank Meziere. He was carjacked at gunpoint from a self-service car wash in Dallas, then found dead in a south Dallas neighborhood. He'd been shot 10 times in the head.

The high court, without comment, refused Monday to review their appeals. Neither man has an execution date.

In today's orders, the United States Supreme Court declined to review Chanthakoummane's petition for certiorari.

Appeals exhausted. Ruling could result in execution date.
