Bigler Jobe Stouffer II - Oklahoma Death Row

    Facts of the Crime:

He was convicted in 1986 for the 1985 shooting death of elementary schoolteacher Linda Reaves and the wounding of her boyfriend, Doug Ivens, in Oklahoma County. Stouffer had been dating Ivens' estranged wife, Velva Ivens. He went to Doug Ivens' house, asked to borrow a gun and then turned it on Doug Ivens and Reaves. Doug Ivens was shot in the head, arm and chest and survived to testify. Prosecutors say the motive was for Ivens' wife to collect on a life insurance policy. Stouffer also was given a life sentence for injuring Ivens.

Stouffer was re-sentenced to death on March 11, 2003.

US court orders hearing for Okla. death row inmate

An appeals court has ordered a federal judge to conduct a hearing on an Oklahoma death row inmate's claim of jury tampering.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the hearing in a decision handed down Thursday in the case of 71-year-old Bigler J. "Bud" Stouffer II.

Stouffer was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the Jan. 24, 1985, shooting death of Putnam City teacher Linda Reaves. He was also convicted of shooting her boyfriend, Doug Ivens.

Stouffer was granted a new trial in 1999 after an appellate court ruled Stouffer's lawyers provided an inadequate defense. He was convicted and sentenced to death again following a retrial in 2003.

Stouffer alleges there was improper non-verbal communication between a juror and her husband during his second trial.
