Okla. attorney general seeks execution dates
OKLAHOMA CITY — Attorney General Scott Pruitt is seeking execution dates for two Oklahoma death row inmates who have exhausted their state and federal appeals.
Pruitt's office on Monday asked the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to set execution dates for 46-year-old Charles Warner and 38-year-old Clayton Lockett.
Warner received the death penalty for the 1997 killing in Oklahoma City of 11-month-old Adriana Waller, the daughter of Warner's girlfriend.
Lockett is scheduled to die for the 1999 slaying of Stephanie Nieman, who was shot to death and buried in a shallow grave near Tonkawa.
Once an execution date is set, both men will have an opportunity to present a case for clemency to the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board. The board can vote to recommend clemency to the governor.
