    Amber Rogers

    Jeremy Alan Williams

    Facts of the Crime:

Jeremy Williams was convicted of murdering a bank employee during a 2004 robbery.

The District Attorney's Office agreed to drop a death-penalty request for Williams' co-defendant, Alvin "Tony" Jordan, who was sentenced in June 2006 to a no-parole life sentence upon pleading guilty to murdering the teller, Amber Rogers. Prosecutors maintained that Williams and Jordan were the masked gunmen who opened fire inside First Fidelity Bank, 2642 E. 21st St., killing Rogers and wounding the bank president and a customer.

Williams has been on death row since June 19, 2006.

U.S. Supreme Court rejects final appeals of two on Oklahoma's death row

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected the final appeals of two Oklahoma death row inmates, but Attorney General Scott Pruitt declined to seek execution dates while the state's lethal injection process is under review.

Without comment, the high court declined to review the cases of:

    •Richard Fairchild, convicted in Oklahoma County of first-degree child abuse murder for the 1993 killing of his girlfriend's three-year-old son; Adam Broomhall;

•Jeremy Alan Williams, convicted of first-degree murder in Tulsa County for his part in the 2004 shooting death of bank teller Amber Rogers during the robbery of the First Fidelity Bank.

Fairchild is 56; Williams is 32.

The attorney general typically asks the Court of Criminal Appeals to set execution dates for death row inmates who have exhausted their appeals.

But Pruitt told the court Monday it would be inappropriate to seek execution dates while the investigation of the Corrections Department's protocol for lethal injection is ongoing.

There are now five death row inmates who have exhausted their appeals. The executions of three inmates were previously delayed.

The investigation was prompted by the discovery that a pharmacy had delivered the wrong drugs for the Sept. 30 execution of Richard Glossip.

Before that blunder, the constitutionality of the state's lethal injection protocol had gone all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and been narrowly upheld last summer. The challenge stemmed from the trouble-plagued execution in 2013 of Clayton Lockett.

Glossip was to be the first inmate executed after the Supreme Court decision.

In calling for the investigation, Pruitt said in October that "the state owes it to the people of Oklahoma to ensure that, on their behalf, it can properly and lawfully administer the sentence of death imposed by juries for the most heinous crimes ... Until my office knows more about these circumstances and gains confidence that (Corrections Department) can carry out executions in accordance with the execution protocol, I am asking the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to issue an indefinite stay of all scheduled executions."

2 more death row inmates await execution dates amid probe

Two more Oklahoma death row inmates have exhausted their appeals and are ready to have execution dates set once the state finishes its investigation into drug mixups during the last two lethal injections.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals released an order Monday for stays of execution for two convicted killers — Richard Stephen Fairchild and Jeremy Alan Williams.

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt notified the court both men had exhausted their appeals, but that execution dates shouldn't be set while a grand jury investigates how the wrong drug was delivered for the last two lethal injections.

One inmate was executed using the wrong drug in January 2015, and a second inmate was just hours away from his lethal injection in September when prison officials noticed the mistake.

Oklahoma death row inmate found dead in cell

MCALESTER, Okla. (KOKH) — An inmate on Oklahoma's death row is dead from suicide.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections confirms that 35-year-old Jeremy Williams was found dead in his cell at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at approximately 11:14 p.m. June 9.

Williams was discovered by a jail staff conducting a count on death row. The man was reportedly found with a ligature around his neck.

In March 2006, Williams was convicted of first-degree murder for his part in a the 2004 shooting of bank teller Amber Rogers during a robbery in Tulsa County. In January 2016, he exhausted his appeals. His execution date was pending as the state continues to work on its execution protocol.

Executions in Oklahoma have been put on hold since September 2015, after an inmate was put to death using the wrong drugs. The Oklahoma DOC announced in March that they plan to use nitrogen gas to execute inmates. A protocol for the procedure was expected to take three to four months to develop and then would be pending a 150-day waiting period for a federal review.
