    Davel V. Chinn - Ohio Death Row




    Summary of Offense:

    On January 30, 1989, Chinn murdered 21-year-old Brian Jones on Germantown Pike in Jefferson Township. Chinn, and his accomplice, Marvin Washington, robbed Mr. Jones and his friend, Gary Welborn, in downtown Dayton. Mr. Welborn escaped, but Chinn and Washington were able to kidnap Mr. Jones, driving off with him and his car. A short time later, Chinn ordered Mr. Jones out of the car and shot him in the chest and arm.

    On November 4, 2002, Chinn filed a habeas petition in Federal District Court.

    On September 21, 2020, Chinn filed an appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

    On October 27, 2021, oral argument will be heard in Chinn's appeal before the Sixth Circuit. The panel will be made up of Senior Judge Siler (G.H.W. Bush), Judge Kethledge (G.W. Bush) and Judge Thapar (Trump).
