You would think this guy would have a date by now considering his horrific crime. He hasn't got any appeals pending according to the last capital crimes report.

    Cleveland prosecutor wants killer executed

A prosecutor has requested an execution date for a condemned Ohio man who came close to dying by injection a decade ago before courts intervened.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor William Mason says death row inmate Gregory Lott has now exhausted all his state and federal appeals and on Tuesday asked the Ohio Supreme Court to set a date for Lott to die.

The 50-year-old Lott was convicted in the 1986 murder of John McGrath of East Cleveland.

Lott was scheduled for execution in 2002 and 2004, but the procedure was delayed.

The first time, his lawyers claimed he was mentally retarded, a claim that was later dismissed.

The next time, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the execution so lower courts could review Lott's claim that evidence was withheld.

    and the article...

For the third time in a decade, the Ohio Supreme Court has set an execution date for a death-row inmate convicted of killing a Cleveland man in 1986.

Inmate Gregory Lott's execution had been scheduled in 2002 and 2004, but he won last-minute stays both times based on two different arguments — that he was mentally disabled and that a prosecutor failed to reveal key evidence proving his innocence.

Both of those arguments ultimately failed, and the Ohio Supreme Court on Friday scheduled the 51-year-old's execution for March 19, 2014.

Lott was convicted of attacking and setting fire to 84-year-old John McGrath in his Cleveland home on July 15, 1986. McGrath died in the hospital eight days later.

Lott has admitted to burglarizing McGrath's home twice but denied killing him.

JT, you know Ohio protocol calls for 3 weeks between executions. Moh's theory, and I concur, is dates are left open for sentencing judges to set execution dates for the newly convicted, and for the OH SC to set new execution dates for inmates who lost appeals on stays of execution.

I can understand that logic tho to me the most logical act would be to have multiple exs on one day. That would be the most cost productive thing to do.
