Daniel Nunez - California Death Row

    David Nunez

    Facts of the Crime:

Sentenced to death on September 19, 2000 in Los Angeles County in the October 29, 1998 murders of Renesha Fuller, 21, and boyfriend Edward Robinson, 22. Nunez and William Satele were in County Jail awaiting trial on the possession charge when investigators, using ballistics tests, matched the weapon a Norinko assault rifle banned under state law--with spent casings from the scene of the slaying. Authorities believe that the suspects did not know their victims, who were shot several times at close range. The case had baffled detectives. The victims had no criminal background or gang affiliations. They were not robbed, and none of their past relationships yielded any motive. Fuller and Robinson had been dating about five months. About 11:30 p.m. the day they were killed, Robinson was standing at Fuller's car as she started the engine. They had spent most of the day together at Robinson's condo on Frampton Avenue, near the Pacific Coast Highway. As he bent down to speak with Fuller, or perhaps kiss her goodnight, someone walked up from behind, police believe, and shot four rounds. The bullets passed through Robinson then killed Fuller. Fuller lived with her mother and stepfather, an Inglewood police officer, in Los Angeles. She was about to start a new job. Robinson worked with his father as a mason.

On September 14, 2000, Satele was also sentenced to death in Los Angeles County. For more on Satele, see: http://www.cncpunishment.com/forums/...ghlight=satele

State Supreme Court upholds death penalty in Harbor City murders

The California Supreme Court on Monday affirmed the death penalty for two Wilmington gang members convicted of a 1998 double murder in Harbor City, but vacated special gang, firearms and multiple murder allegations in the case.

Daniel Nunez and William Satele were convicted of the Oct. 29, 1998, slayings of Renesha Ann Fuller and Edward Robinson, who were shot by a semi-automatic AK-47 assault rifle loaded with armor-piercing, hollow-point bullets.

Fuller was leaving Robinson's town house at 254th Street and Frampton Avenue around 11 p.m. when the shots were fired. Though prosecutors didn't prove which of the two men fired the shots, jurors found them both guilty of murder and also found true special gang, firearms and multiple murder allegations.

Long Beach Superior Court Judge Tomson T. Ong sentenced Nunez and Satele to death in September 2000.

Supreme Court Justice Joyce L. Kennard, writing the opinion for the higher court, found that the defendants were gang members, but the evidence did not clearly show that the murders were gang-related. The higher court dropped the gang allegation and the gun allegation, and said the trial court mistakenly allowed the jury to make special allegations of multiple murder for each count of murder.
