    Felipe Devora Pleads Guilty in 2009 Texas Murder of Joe Jiles, Sentenced To LWOP

    Death penalty sought in fatal beating outside restaurant

    Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against a 31-year-old man accused in the 2009 robbery and beating death of a man outside a Northeast El Paso restaurant.

    Jury selection in the capital murder trial against Felipe Devora is scheduled to begin next month. Potential jurors will be questioned individually. The process could take several weeks before the trial begins in the 384th District Court.

    Police allege Devora attacked Joe Jiles, 67, on Feb. 7, 2009, outside Mo'z Bar B Que, 4011 Fred Wilson. After beating Jiles, police said, Devora allegedly set Jiles' body on fire.

    Devora is also accused of raping a woman at a Northeast apartment complex five hours after Jiles' death.

    Man Connected To Mo'z Bar B Que Killing Pleads Guilty

    EL PASO, Texas -- A man who prosecutors said killed a man outside a northeast El Paso restaurant pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated assault charges, according to officials at district attorney's office.

    Felipe Devora, 31, reached the plea agreement with prosecutors Thursday.

    Devora plead guilty to killing Joe Jiles, 67, the cook at Mo'z Bar-B-Que restaurant on Feb. 7, 2009. Jiles' body was found burned outside the restaurant located at 4011 Fred Wilson.

    Officials told KFOX Devora will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole plus 55 years for raping a woman at a northeast apartment complex five hours after Jiles' death.

    Devora was facing the death penalty before he plead guilty to prosecutors in the 384th District Court.
