Brent C. Schwertz Sentenced in 2010 LA Slaying of Tracy Weber

    St. James, Mo. —

Two years after the shooting death of a St. James hairstylist, the man accused in her death will face a jury.

Tracy Weber was shot in the chest in February 2010. The defendant, Brent C. Schwertz, 37, of Rolla, is facing charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action. Weber was Schwertz’s girlfriend and known to many for her work as a hairstylist at Studio K in St. James.

Schwertz’s trial was set Wednesday for Feb. 22, 2012.

Three days have been set aside for the trial, and the pre-trial conference has been scheduled in that time frame as well.

If convicted of first degree murder, Schwertz faces the potential of the death penalty or life in prison without parol.

Legal actions against Schwertz relating to the shooting do not end with criminal charges.

Weber’s family, including her parents and children, also filed a wrongful death suit against him in March of 2010.

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. -- A judge in Pulaski County has sentenced a man to life in prison, for the 2010 shooting death of the man's fiancee.

Brent Schwertz, 34, of Rolla, was found guilty by a jury after a trial in April. His case was moved from Phelps County to Pulaski County on a change of venue.
Schwertz was arrested in February, 2010, after Tracy Louise Weber was shot to death in the couple's home.

The Missouri Attorney General's office was name special prosecutor for the case. According to a news release from the AG's office, evidence given to the jury showed that Schwertz shot and killed Weber at their home on County Road 5010 south of Rolla, after she told him she was ending their relationship.

According to prosecutors, when officers got to the house, Schwertz was holding a pistol and told officers his girlfriend was inside and that he had shot her in the chest.
Weber died on the way to a hospital in Springfield.

Wednesday, a judge sentenced him to life in prison for the murder charge and 40 years in prison for armed criminal action.
