Carlisle man charged in deaths of 2 women, unborn child: Cumberland County DA

    By Steve Marroni

Police in Cumberland County have filed first-degree murder charges against a 25-year-old Carlisle man they say killed two women he had been romantically involved with.

According to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, Davone U. Anderson has been charged in connection with the deaths of Kaylee Lyons and Sydney Parmelee, both 2014 graduates of Carlisle High School.

On July 5, Carlisle police were called to a home on the 100 block of East Louther Street for a 911 call reporting a suicide and found Parmelee, 23, with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the DA’s office.

However, an examination of the scene and subsequent interviews led police to launch an investigation into her death, which revealed she did not die from suicide but as a result of a homicide, District Attorney Skip Ebert said in a press release Monday.

Then on July 30, while Parmelee’s death was still under investigation, police responded to the same address, this time for a report of someone in cardiac arrest. Inside the home, they found Lyons, 23, in serious need of medical attention as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the DA’s office. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died from her injuries the next day.

She was six weeks pregnant, and her death was determined to be a homicide, according to the DA’s office.

Police say Anderson killed both women, who had been romantically linked to him, investigators say. He fathered children with both.

Anderson is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree murder of an unborn child, two counts of endangering the welfare of children, two counts of persons not to possess firearms and one count of theft by receiving stolen property.

More details are expected to be released at a press conference at 2 p.m.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the police, 717-240-6660.

Prosecutors to pursue death penalty for man accused of killing Carlisle women

If Cumberland County prosecutors have their way, a 25-year-old accused of killing the mothers of his children weeks apart this summer will face the death penalty if he’s found guilty.

The Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office announced plans to seek the death penalty Thursday during Davone Unique Anderson’s formal arraignment, according to Sean McCormack, chief deputy district attorney.

“We believe we have the evidence to obtain those convictions," McCormack said.

Anderson is accused of carrying out the separate, but related shooting deaths of Sydney Parmelee and Kaylee Lyons in July. The 25-year-old — who fathered children with both women — confessed to both shootings after his arrest, Carlisle police said.

Police said Anderson admitted to shooting Parmelee, 23, July 5 at a home on the 100 block of East Louther Street in Carlisle because he thought she was cheating on him. He shot Lyons, who was six months pregnant, July 30 at the same home out of fear she’d turn him in, according to police.

Anderson was arrested on theft charges the night of the second shooting when he was spotted driving Lyons' car in downtown Carlisle, police said.

McCormack said a notice of aggravated circumstances has been filed against Anderson, which is a requirement to seek the death penalty. These circumstances include Anderson’s lengthy history of felonies, that Lyons was a possible witness for the prosecution to Parmelee’s murder, and the killing was done while committing a felony.

Anderson is facing three first-degree murder charges, as well as endangering the welfare of children and firearms offenses. He is being held in the Cumberland County Prison without bail

Man charged with killing two women in Cumberland County goes on trial

    WGAL

    CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. —
A trial began Monday for the man charged with killing two women in Cumberland County in 2020.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Davone Anderson.

He is accused of fatally shooting Sydney Parmelee and Kaylee Lyons, both 23.

Parmelee was found dead July 5, 2020, in a home on the 100 block of East Louther Street in Carlisle, according to investigators.

Police said Lyons, who was six weeks pregnant, was shot several weeks later at the same location.

The women were romantically involved with Anderson, police said. He fathered children with both women.

A criminal complaint alleges Anderson told investigators he killed Parmelee because he thought she was cheating on him. He killed Lyons because he thought she would turn him in for Parmelee's death, according to the complaint.

Boyfriend guilty of first-degree murder in deaths of 2 Carlisle women

    By Jonathan Bermueller
    Penn Live

After only three hours of deliberation, Cumberland County jury has convicted a Carlisle man for the first-degree murders of both his girlfriends and the unborn child one of them carried.

Davone Anderson, 27, of Carlisle, shot and killed Sydney Parmelee on June 5, 2020; and Kaylee Lyons on June 30, 2020.

Lyons was several weeks pregnant with Davone Jr. at the time of her death.

The jury late Monday afternoon also convicted Anderson of endangering the welfare of his 13-month-old boy, who was present in the room both times the women were killed.

Now, Anderson’s lawyers fight for his life during the penalty phase, where prosecutors will try to convince the jury the death penalty is applicable.

Cumberland County man sentenced to death penalty for 2020 murder

    By George Stockburger
    WHTM News

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – Davone Anderson, who was convicted of killing Carlisle two women and an unborn baby in 2020, has been sentenced to the death penalty.

According to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, the jury reached the death penalty verdict in the death of Kaylee Lyons, but was unable to reach a death penalty verdict for the murder of Sydney Parmelee.

Anderson will be sentenced to life without parole in Parmelee’s case.

“We appreciate the time and effort the jury put into their verdict,” said District Attorney Sean McCormack. “To return a verdict of death is no simple task.”

Anderson was convicted Monday of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree murder of an unborn child, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as his 13-month-old son was present for both murders.

Investigators say that Anderson, who had relationships with both victims, shot Parmelle at the beginning of July 2020 because he thought she was cheating on him and then shot Lyons later that month because he thought she would turn him in for Parmelee’s murder. Authorities determined that Lyons was about six weeks pregnant when she was killed.

“We were very pleased that the jury returned guilty verdicts today, said McCormack on Monday following the conviction. “It has been almost two years since these two young mothers were murdered leaving three very young children motherless. Their families are relieved that the man who killed them has been found guilty.”

Appears to be slightly premature. He likely won't be formally sentenced for a few weeks.

I moved him to awaiting sentencing. I did check before I moved him to DR and the last 4 inmates sentenced to death in PA were there by the next day, and nowhere did it say formally sentenced by a judge, except in one case, and it was done withing hours of a jury recommendation.

I mean, by statute, it's a formality, but judges often wait to impose the sentence along with the sentences for the other offenses (which need presentence reports).

Formal sentencing set for May 31.

Man who killed 2 mothers of his children gets his death sentence in Cumberland County court

    By Charles Thompson
    PennLive.com

CARLISLE - A Carlisle man convicted of the June 2020 shootings of two different women who both had borne children to him received his jury-decided death sentence with nothing new to say about it Tuesday morning.

When Cumberland County Judge Edward Guido asked Davone Anderson, 27, if he had anything to say for himself, to the family members of the women jurors found that he shot in separate instances in 2020, or even to the motherless children he leaves behind, Anderson ended any suspense with a quick “No sir.”

It was an anti-climactic end to a case that shocked the family, friends and classmates of Sydney Parmalee and Kaylee Lyons, as well as the greater Carlisle community.

Police and prosecutors have built their cases - in part on confessions from Anderson - on the theory that he shot and killed Parmelee because he thought she was cheating on him. Police say he then killed Lyons three weeks later because he was scared she was going to turn him in for killing Parmelee.

Anderson was taken into custody on theft charges on the night of the second shooting, after he was spotted driving Lyons’ car in downtown Carlisle.

None of the victims’ family members - though present in strong numbers for the proceeding - spoke in court or afterward Tuesday. They chose instead, Cumberland County District Attorney Sean McCormack said, to stand on their prior testimony at Anderson’s sentencing hearing earlier this month and / or letters submitted to Guido as part of a pre-sentence investigation, which the judge entered into the case record Tuesday.

With that, Guido sentenced Anderson to a life without parole sentence for the murder of Parmalee on June 5, 2020; to death by execution for the murder of Lyons on June 30, 2020; and a second life sentence for the murder of an unborn child that Lyons was carrying at the time.

At McCormack’s request, Guido ran the two womens’ sentences consecutive to each other. McCormack said he was requesting that largely as a symbolic gesture to let the record show that Anderson is paying separately for each of the lives he took.

Anderson, in handcuffs and a prison jumpsuit, was stoic as sheriff’s deputies led him out of the courtroom.

“This is just a horrible, horrible tragedy on so many different levels,” McCormack told PennLive after the sentencing.

“Two young, 23-year-old mothers lost their lives; one of then was pregnant at the time. HIs children no longer have mothers and, as a result of his own actions, they effectively no longer have a father either,” McCormack continued. “I mean, this is the kind of case you just can’t adequately put into words.”

Anderson had some family in attendance as well, Tuesday.

Outside the courthouse, his mother, Tareka Anderson, said she is hopeful that the death sentence will eventually be lifted on future appeals based on arguments over whether her son’s admissions of guilt were legally obtained, and whether it was fair to Davone to have the two shootings consolidated into one trial.

Tareka Anderson stopped short when asked if she believed in her son’s innocence, saying “That’s not for me to say because I wasn’t there.”

But she said she wanted to make sure that he gets his full rights as a defendant. It is certain that Davone Anderson’s case will now more into a long appellate phase. In fact, the last execution in the state of Pennsylvania was July 6, 1999, when Gary Heidnik was put to death by lethal injection.

Anderson also extended her sympathies to the victims’ families Tuesday, and noted that she is feeling that loss as well.

“Sydney was just like a daughter to me,” Anderson said. “We were together like all the time.”

Davone Anderson also pleaded guilty Tuesday and was sentenced to 6 to 12 years on an unrelated aggravated assault case stemming from a March 11, 2022 fight with a fellow inmate at Cumberland County Prison, where Anderson’s been held since his arrest on the homicide cases.

In that case, Anderson admitted to punching the other inmate and then throwing him over an internal prison balcony during an assault that witnesses told police erupted over a disagreement on how Anderson was doing his job handing out food trays. The victim in that case is recovering from his injuries.
