    "Ted" Theodore Robert Bundy

Theodore Robert Bundy born November 24, 1946, Burlington, Vermont, U.S. died January 24, 1989, Starke, Florida Ted Bundy: Alias: Chris Hagen. Serial murderer and rapist, one of the most notorious criminals of the late 20th century in the US.

Bundy was born out of wedlock and spent his early years ih Vermont living with his grandparents. After his mother took custody of him and remarried she raised him as her younger brother. He grew up in the north end residential area of Tacoma, WA where he was a Boy Scout. He had a difficult relationship with his stepfather; and his shyness made him a target of bullying. Bundy's killer instincts may have started when he was a 14-year-old paperboy. Ann Marie Burr, an 8-year-old girl, mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night and has never been found. After he graduated from the University of Washington he attended the University of Washington Law School while doing charity work and campaigning for the US Republican Party. He developed a series of normal relationships with women.

Between 1974 and 1978 he raped and killed young women in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, and Florida. He confessed to 28 murders, but estimates make him responsible for hundreds of deaths.

Bundy became a celebrity, following his escape from custody in Colorado in 1977. His charm and intelligence drew public attention. His case inspired a series of popular novels and films devoted to serial murder; which outraged feminist criminologists, who felt Bundy was romanticized by the media.

Following a well-publicized trial, in 1979 he was sentenced to death for the murder of two college students; the following year he was sentenced to death, for the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl. Bundy gave his only death row interview to founder of Focus on the Family, a California-based ministry that later moved to Colorado Springs. He was put to death in Florida's electric chair on Jan. 24, 1989, for the sex slaying of Kimberly Leach, 12, hours after he told Dr. James Dobson, that unless society deals with pornography that depicts violence "lots of kids . . . are going to be dead tomorrow."

Bundy's known victims are as follows:

Joni Lenz, severely beaten in her bed on January 4, 1974. She survived.

Lynda Ann Healy, 21, disappeared from her basement bedroom in the University District on February 1, 1974. Healy worked at a radio station broadcasting ski reports.

Donna Gail Manson, 19, disappeared from the campus of Evergreen State College on March 12, 1974.

Susan Elaine Rancourt, 18, disappeared from the campus of Central Washington State University in Ellensburg on April 17, 1974.

Roberta Kathleen Parks, 22, disappeared from the campus of Oregon State University on May 6, 1974.

Brenda Carol Ball, 22, last seen in a tavern in Burien on June 1, 1974.

Georgann Hawkins, 18, disappeared from behind her sorority near the University of Washington on June 11, 1974.

Janice Ott, 23, and Denise Naslund, 19, both disappeared from Lake Samammish State Park on July 14, 1974.

Carol Valenzuela, 20, disappeared near Vancouver, Washington, on August 2, 1974.

Laura Aime, 17, disappeared from Lehi, Utah, on October 30, 1974.

Nancy Wilcox, 16, a cheerleader, disappeared from Utah in October 1974.

Melissa Smith, 17, disappeared from Midvale, Utah, on October 18, 1974.

Carol LaRonch, 18, escaped as Bundy tried to kidnap her in Salt Lake City on November 8, 1974.

Debby Kent, 17, disappeared from an ice skating rink in Bountiful, Utah, on November 8, 1975.

Denise Oliverson, 25, a homemaker, disappeared from Grand Junction, Colorado, on April 6, 1975.

Melanie Cooley, 18, disappeared from Nederland, Colorado, on April 15, 1975.

Shelly Robertson, 24, disappeared from Golden, Colorado, on July 1, 1975.

Nancy Baird, 23, disappeared from the gas station where she worked in Layton, Utah, in July 1975.

Julie Cunningham, 26, a sporting goods employee, disappeared from Vail, Colorado, on March 15, 1975.

Caryn Campbell, 23, a nurse, disappeared from the parking lot of her hotel in Utah on January 12, 1975.

Margaret Bowman, 21, and Lisa Levy, 20, sorority sisters at Florida State University, clubbed and strangled on January 14, 1978.

Karen Chandler, 21, Kathy Kleiner, 20, and Cheryl Thomas were also severely attacked that same night, but they survived.

Kimberly Diane Leach, 12, disappeared from her junior high school in Lake City, Florida, on February 9, 1978.

Fact: Bundy was accused of the murder of Kathleen Merry Devine, 15, who disappeared while hitchhiking to Oregon on November 15, 1973. While trying to avoid execution, he confessed to crimes, but swore he was innocent in the murder of Devine. In March of 2002, William E. Cosden, Jr. was arrested for the murder based on DNA evidence preserved from the Devine case. He has been tried and found guilty.

Fact: In 1984, King County officials acknowledged losing the remains of Denise Naslund and Janice Ott, victims of serial killer Ted Bundy. In 1987, King County paid $224,000 to the victims’ families to settle lawsuits.

    Morbid Ted Trivia

    The Ted Bundy Ghost Story

In April of 2001 a guard retired from the Florida State Prison at Raiford, Florida. With the condition that no one reveal his name he told a story to a Tampa Newpaper reporter that was strange and spooky.

Ghost Of Ted Bundy Setting In The Electric Chair

He stated that shortly after Ted Bundy was put to death in the Florida Electric chair that guards including himself would go into the room where the electric chair was located and there would be Ted setting in the chair. He would not be strapped in or or anything he would just be setting there smiling at who ever came in the room like he knew a secret. When you would approach the chair or speak he would simply vanish. At one point the former guard said it got so bad that you could not get a guard to go into the room. Other guards began to report that they would see Ted in the area of his former cell where he spent the last hours of his life. Some claimed he spoke to them and all reported he said the same thing. It was " Well I beat all of you didn't I " The former guard said the Warden and Wardens staff went guard to guard and told them that any guard who reported what was going on at the prison would be fired. Several didn't have to be warned they quit after seeing Ted a time or two.

Alice In Chains "Ted Just Admit It"

Nothing's Shocking, debut album from Jane's Addiction, was released released on August 23, 1988. The track list includes an epic 7 minute song titled Ted Just Admit it, Ted Bundy's voice from trial is featured in the song.

    Ted Just Admit It...lyrics

    * Ted Bundy and Jane's Addiction both started their careers in Washington state.

    The '68 Volkswagen

The VW Bug was once owned by Korn front man Jonathan Davis.

Jonathan Davis poses in front of Ted Bundy’s infamous VW. Yes, the same VW that Bundy used to pick up women in the ’70s.

Apparently the VW has been sold to Arthur Nash. It was recently on display at a D.C. museum.

Ted Bundy's VW goes on display at D.C. crime museum, but should it?

Debbie Harry's Close Encounter with Serial Killer Ted Bundy

It is no surprise that Debbie Harry has now chosen to live in a bucolic suburban setting at the New Jersey shore with a place in NYC too. She must have had a lot of wild experiences during her time traveling the world with her band Blondie. One of her experiences almost caused her to lose her life. So now she is enjoying a quieter life.

Late Night Encounter with Ted Bundy

She has now revealed that in her past she almost fell victim to the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy while she was in New York City in the early 1970s, reports the Telegraph. She was going home from a late night gig when he started to follow her in his car. She was having a hard time hailing a cab so finally she decided to get into Bundy’s car.

A Feeling of Terror for Debbie Harry

She didn’t stay in his car long. She noticed that the inside door handles to the vehicle had been removed. That is an alarming sign indeed that the owner of the car may have an evil motive into luring someone into the car.

Debbie Harry has stated that she had a physical reaction upon realizing that she might be trapped in the car. She said “the hairs on the back of my neck just stood up,” notes the National Enquirer.

Ms. Harry was able to reach through an opening at the top of the car window to open the car door via the outside handle. She then threw herself out of the car. She didn’t recognize Ted Bundy then. However, when she later saw him on the news she knew it was the same man whose car she had to escape in NYC.

    Ted Bundy: 30 Murders

Ted Bundy had 30 known victims and there are probably many more people around the country that he killed. Several of his murder victims were female college students asleep in the Chi Omega sorority home at Florida State University. He received the death penalty in 1989.

Debbie Harry is age 65 now. She probably has a lot of tales to tell about her adventures on the road as a rock star. Not too many people experience a run in with a serial killer. She must have been shaken for some time by having to flee the car after realizing she was in danger.

    "Rapture"

Luckily she escaped Bundy’s clutches and went on to have an amazing life as a musician. And now when we hear her singing “Rapture” we’ll know that she earned the right to all that bliss via escaping Bundy. She has built a life of creativity that used her talent in a spectacular way.

Ted Bundy’s prosecutor speaks to JWLA

“As the electricity coursed through his body and his fists clenched, I thought to myself, ‘How many throats have those fists clenched around?’”

At the April meeting of the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, former Florida Assistant State Attorney George “Bob” Dekle Sr. talked about what it was like to watch the death penalty by electric chair carried out on Ted Bundy in 1989.

Dekle prosecuted Bundy for the murder of Kimberly Diane Leach.

“I devoted a number of years of my life to the case and I wanted to see it through to the end,” said Dekle.

It was a chilling experience that still stirs emotions in Dekle, who had to take a moment to collect himself after his speech. But he believed it was necessary to bring closure to the most profound case of his career and the first Murder I case he had ever prosecuted.

“I was really green at the time and it was my first murder case,” said Dekle. “I learned how to be a prosecutor during that case.”

The term “serial killer” wasn’t widely used when 12-year-old Leach disappeared from Lake City in February 1978.

“It wasn’t big news, except in Lake City, that this little girl had disappeared,” said Dekle, who was an assistant state attorney in the Third Judicial Circuit, which included Lake City.

He called the process of building a case against Bundy an “extreme investigation.”

One of the key pieces of evidence was the white van that Bundy was driving. Inside it they found clothing fibers, sand and a blood stain on the floor in the rear of the van, which were examined.

There were few tools or methods that were turned down in trying to locate Leach. The Florida Highway Patrol donated a plane so they could watch for groups of buzzards that might signal the location of the body. They listened to psychics, were granted access to military equipment to search for the body and used psychological profiling to break down where Bundy might bury the body.

Dekle gave Bundy credit for his talent for manipulation, but also pointed out that Bundy outsmarted himself during the trial.

“He did his dead-level best to manipulate the system and to derail the prosecution,” said Dekle.

“In the end his antics contributed to his conviction. (Bundy’s attorney) gave one of the most stirring final arguments I believe I have ever heard in my life. I was sitting at the table thinking, ‘Oh … my … god. He’s going to talk this jury into turning that man loose.’

“As (the defense) was rising up to a crescendo, Bundy jumped up, ran across the courtroom, grabbed him by the coat sleeve and placed a note in his hand. Bundy wanted him to say something that had nothing to do with the argument. He killed the effect the defense was going for.”

Dekle authored a book about his experience. “The Last Murder: Investigation, Prosecution and The Execution of Ted Bundy,” should be available beginning June 30.

Missing girl's sister: Bundy DNA match could bring closure

TACOMA, Wash. -- A vial of serial killer Ted Bundy's blood has been found in Florida and investigators will use the newly discovered evidence to try to solve cases that went cold decades ago. And for the sister of a 6-year-old who vanished in 1961, a match to Bundy could finally bring their family some closure.

"I think we spent most of our weekends going out looking for her," said Julie Burr.

The search for her sister, Ann Marie Burr, still haunts her 50 years later.

"I was awakened early in the morning with men shining flashlights in my face," she said. "They were the police, seeing my parents running through the kitchen opening drawers and looking under beds looking for my sister -- I remember that it was like it happened yesterday."

Days from starting third grade, Ann Burr vanished from her Tacoma bedroom. Her body was never found.

A young Ted Bundy lived nearby.

Detectives and true crime writer Ann Rule have long speculated that serial killer Bundy was connected to Burr.

"I've always thought that Ted killed Ann Marie," Rule said.

But Julie Burr wasn't so sure.

"I haven't always thought it's Ted Bundy," she said. "There's several suspects."

Burr's mom wrote to Bundy on death row asking for a confession.

"I think my mother and father received more than one letter from him but he in those letters always denied it," Julie Burr said.

Before he was executed in 1989, Bundy confessed to more than 30 murders and was suspected of many more. A complete DNA profile couldn't be developed for the serial killer until the blood was found.

The full profile will be uploaded to the FBI's national database Friday, giving authorities key evidence to possibly link Bundy to long-unsolved crimes.

The vial was discovered after Florida authorities received a call from a Tacoma detective working Burr's case.

"Even if this DNA doesn't show anything, will he still be a suspect?" Julie Burr said. "Probably, because it wouldn't conclude that he didn't do it."

Burr says a match would help her family move on.

"Because if not, we're right back where we were," she said.

No body, no killer, no closure.

Mother of serial killer Ted Bundy dies

Insistence on son's innocence waned following death-row confessions

Louise Bundy, who was a staunch defender of her serial killer son, Ted Bundy, before he made a series of death-row confessions, has died. She was 88.

She died last month in her hometown of Tacoma after a long illness, The News Tribune newspaper reported Wednesday.

Her death was confirmed to The Associated Press by the Rev. Melvin Woodworth, pastor of Tacoma's First United Methodist Church, which she attended from 1951 until a few years ago, when her health prevented her.

In the mid-1970s, Louise Bundy was a married mother of five working as a secretary at the University of Puget Sound when authorities across the nation began to accuse her eldest son in a series of gruesome killings.

For years, she refused to believe the charges.

"Ted Bundy does not go around killing women and little children!" she told The News Tribune in 1980 after Ted Bundy was convicted in the Florida killings. "And I know this, too, that our never-ending faith in Ted - our faith that he is innocent - has never wavered. And it never will."

Her stance softened after Ted Bundy made a number of death-row confessions, the newspaper reported.

He ultimately confessed to murdering more than two dozen women and was executed in 1989 after being convicted of killing two Florida State University sorority members and a 12-year-old girl.

Louise Bundy spoke with him twice on his execution day, telling him at the end of the second call, "You'll always be my precious son."

Ted Bundy was among some of the notorious criminals who have been represented by Seattle lawyer John Henry Browne. He recalled Louise Bundy as "very quiet, very much concerned about her son."

In a telephone interview Wednesday, Browne said he hadn't spoken with Louise Bundy in several decades but had flown to Florida with her several times after Bundy was arrested there.

"I do know her insistence on Ted's innocence actually waned even before he started confessing, but her love for him certainly didn't," Browne said.

Louise Bundy remained in Tacoma following her son's execution and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.

Her son's troubles took a toll, the newspaper reported. Louise Bundy and her husband, John Bundy, endured jokes and dirty looks over the years and often changed their telephone number to avoid angry calls.

I recall seeing her on the news in 1989 when Ted was fried. She mentioned she has 2 lovely daughters. So Ted has 2 half sisters.

Anyone know what happened to them or Ted's daughter?
