Reading that order, it's rare for SCOTUS to give an explanation. They're clearly annoyed with the panel. Even Ginsburg went right this time.

"They will hurt you. They will hurt your grandma, these people. The root cause of this is there's no discipline in the homes, they don't go to school, you know, they live off the government, no personal accountability, and they just beat people up for no reason, and it's disgusting." - Former Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters
In the Supreme Court's order lifting the stay, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote "[I]nmates seeking time to challenge the manner in which the State plans to execute them must satisfy all of the requirements for a stay, including a showing of a significant possibility of success on the merits."
Thomas went on to state that the District Court "abused its discretion" when it stayed McNabb's execution "without finding that he has a significant possibility of success on the merits."

the pending appeal in destrict is before judge keith watkins. if he has any shred of decency he wont interfere.
SCOTUS said the District Court abused it's discretion. Watkins can't ignore a direct order from SCOTUS.

Well now the supreme court stayed it.
I guess this is just to consider additional appeals and the USSC can still deny them and let the execution proceed.

Supreme Court lifts final stay; Alabama moves forward with execution of Torrey McNabb
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The United States Supreme Court gave Alabama the final go-ahead late Thursday evening to execute death row inmate Torrey McNabb for killing a Montgomery police officer in 1997. McNabb's execution is being conducted by the Alabama Department of Corrections at Holman Prison in Atmore.
McNabb was found guilty of killing veteran Montgomery police officer Anderson Gordon in September 1997. The officer had driven up on an automobile crash caused by McNabb as he fled from a bail bondsman. McNabb opened fire on the officer, killing him.
He refused a final breakfast and didn't request a final meal. McNabb had visits from his mother, two sisters, two friends, and three cousins on his last day. He made several phone calls in the last days to his attorney, cousin, sister and friends.
McNabb did not want prayer or a chaplin before, during or after the execution. His two sisters, mother and two attorneys were going to be witnesses for the execution. As for the victim's family, Gordon's wife, two children, and three siblings were also going to be witnesses.
McNabb's final week saw a frenzy of court filings by attorneys seeking to delay or stop his execution, as well as state leaders seeking to move forward with capital punishment 20 years after Officer Gordon was gunned down.
A federal judge halted the execution earlier in the week, and the 11th Circuit Court of Criminal Appeals upheld that stay. McNabb was one of several death row inmates challenging the constitutionality of Alabama's execution by lethal injection.
Thursday afternoon, the Supreme Court vacated a lower court's order that stayed the execution. Within minutes of the Supreme Court's ruling, McNabb's attorneys sought an emergency motion for a traditional stay of execution from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta which was immediately denied.
McNabb got a short delay when, just minutes before he was to be put to death, his attorneys got a response from the Supreme Court issuing a temporary stay in response to their emergency request.
Just over two hours later, however, the Supreme Court vacated its temporary stay, giving the convicted man no more avenues to fight his death sentence.
