Convicted killer sentenced to death
A convicted killer from Escambia County was sentenced to death Monday for the 2011 murder of Tina Jones.
Cedric Jerome Floyd, 32, was initially found guilty on Oct. 7, 2013 of shooting and killing Jones just after midnight on January 2, 2011.
Evidence presented at trial shows Floyd climbed through Jones’ bedroom window just after midnight and shot her in the back. He then fired two shots at Jones execution-style as she was trying to flee.
The jury recommended a death sentence by a 11 to 1 vote.
“This is a heartbreaking and appalling situation, in which the victim tried desperately to save herself and was viciously killed by someone who had threatened and abused her for years,” Alabama Attorney General Strange said. “If any case demands the death penalty, it is this, and today’s sentence is an important step to bring a measure of justice to Tina Jones and her family.”
Floyd had previously been convicted for first-degree rape.
