Teen in court for clerk’s killing
ALBANY, Ga. — A 16-year-old boy faces adult murder charges stemming from the December killing of a convenience store clerk in East Albany, Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said.
Anthony Hill made his first appearance before a magistrate Tuesday, Edwards said. A first appearance is mandated by law to take place within 72 hours of arrest, he added.
“I would say that at a minimum he (Hill) is facing life without parole in prison,” Edwards said. “There is also the possibility of the death penalty.”
Sentos Vincente, 19, died of a gunshot to the head when Hill and another masked man robbed the Miscelanea Guate-Mex convenience store at about 9:30 a.m. Dec. 17, 2010, Albany Police Department officials charge.
When the robbers demanded money, Vincente refused, Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Department spokeswoman, said in December. One robber shot Vincente and the pair ran from the store at 2120 Radium Springs Road, she said.
Hill, a lighter-skinned suspect, wore a blue ski mask during the robbery, Banks said. The suspect in the black mask shot Vincente.
Officers continue to put in long hours searching for the shooter, Banks said.
“That’s who we are working hard looking for.”
According to “A Guide Through Georgia’s Criminal Justice System” booklet from the District Attorney’s Office, a first hearing is conducted at the Dougherty County Jail, where Hill is in custody. At the first appearance, the accused is advised of his rights and bail is set.
However, because of the serious charges against him, Hill will have to wait to appear before a Superior Court judge concerning bail, Edwards said. It is doubtful any bail will be set, he added.
