A south St. Louis man previously charged in the 2007 slaying of an insurance agent in the City of St. Charles is now facing the more serious charge of first degree murder.
Originally; prosecutors charged 31 year old Cleo Hines with second degree murder, in the death of 48 year old Robert Eidman who was found shot to death inside his office near I-70 and First Capital Drive in June 2007. Hines is also accused of robbery in the case.
The Grand Jury returned an indictment accusing Hines of the more serious offense which is punishable by a life prison term with no chance of release or a potential death penalty.
Hines waived arraigned in St. Charles County Court Monday afternoon by pleading not guilty. He remains jailed on a bond of one million dollars. He's scheduled to return to court next month for a tentative trial setting.
A co-defendant in the case is already in state prison on an unrelated conviction. Paul Curtis White is also charged with first degree murder and robbery in Eidman's death and White is expected back in court later this month.
