Court upholds death sentence in Montgomery slaying
A state appeals court has rejected a new round of appeals from a death row inmate convicted of a convenience store slaying nearly 28 years ago in Montgomery.
The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals issued a 3-0 decision Friday upholding the capital murder conviction and death sentence of William "Chick" Bush.
Bush was convicted and sentenced to die for the shooting death of convenience store clerk Larry Dominguez during a robbery on July 26, 1981. State and federal courts upheld that conviction and sentence.
Then Bush started a new appeal, saying his attorney, Stephen Glassroth, was ineffective at trial. Former Montgomery County Circuit Judge Sally Greenhaw rejected that argument and the appeals court agreed with her Friday.
