This is rather swift by California standards.

Fayed made the "mistake" of hiring a private lawyer straight away rather than waiting for years on end for a court-appointed attorney--and for said attorney to actually file an appeal.

On March 10, 2020, Fayed filed a habeas petition before the California Supreme Court.

Moh, I remember on Scott Peterson’s thread, back in 2011, you mentioned that from his perspective, he is making a mistake by hiring a private attorney instead of letting the state appoint him one that would result in extension after extension for the initial appeal filing.

I’m not sure how the California Supreme Court picks cases to hear that are fully briefed on direct appeal. Charles Ng for example has had his case fully briefed since 2013, 2 years before Fayed did and they still haven’t scheduled oral arguments.
