Paul Gillpatrick Gets 55 to 90 Years in 2009 NE Slaying of Robby Robinson

A brother and sister made their first court appearance on Thursday to face charges in the shooting death of 43-year-old Robby Robinson.

A Douglas County judge ordered 37-year-old Paul Gillpatrick and his sister, 30-year-old Jennifer Gillpatrick, to be held on 10 percent of $3 million bond. They were formally charged with first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Investigators say Robinson was shot outside his duplex near 36th and D Street on August 29th. He later died at the hospital.

According to court records, Jennifer Gillpatrick had an argument with Robinson and threatened him. She later returned with her brother, Paul. Detectives say Jennifer Gillpatrick then shot Robinson in the back with a shotgun.

Prosecutors say both Gillpatricks could face the death penalty if convicted.

Paul Gillpatrick gets prison in killing of ex-firefighter

An Omaha man was sentenced to 55 to 90 years in prison Wednesday for killing former Omaha firefighter Robby Robinson.

Douglas County District Judge Patricia Lamberty sentenced Paul M. Gillpatrick, 38, to the term, which is cut in half under state sentencing guidelines.

After a weeklong trial in June, a jury convicted Gillpatrick of second-degree murder and weapon use. He had faced 21 years to life in prison.

The sentencing came almost a year after Robinson, 43, was gunned down inside his apartment near 36th and Vinton Streets.

On Aug. 29, 2009, prosecutors say, Gillpatrick joined his sister and brother in rushing the apartment after the sister claimed another man had fondled her at the apartment.

The sister's real motive, authorities said, was resentment that none of the people in the apartment would provide her with methamphetamine.

A jury convicted Gillpatrick, 38, in large part because of the testimony of his brother, Eric Gillpatrick.

Family members say Robinson, who worked as an electrician after years as a firefighter, had struggled with a meth addiction.

Jennifer Gillpatrick is scheduled to stand trial later this month.
