Death sentence overturned in Oldham County double murder case
LAGRANGE, KY (WAVE) – The death sentence of a former national guardsman has been overturned by an Oldham County judge.
Circuit Court Judge Karen Conrad tossed out Miguel Soto's sentence more than a decade after he was convicted of killing his in-laws.
Soto was sentenced to death in 2000 for killing Armott and Edna Porter in June 1999. Judge Conrad concluded a juror gave inaccurate statements during pre-trial questioning and didn't consider mitigating evidence in the case against Soto.
Jurors also sentenced Soto to 50 years in prison for the attempted murder of his ex-wife and for firing a shot in the direction of his then three-year-old daughter.
