Dennis Harrington charged with capital murder, abuse of corpse in Rebecca Lauer case
A man who had previously been charged with kidnapping in the case of a missing woman now faces two additional charges, including capital murder.
On Tuesday, Dennis Harrington was charged with Capital Murder and Abuse of a Corpse in the case of Rebecca Lauer, a 36-year-old Cabot woman who disappeared in July 2013. He had previously been charged with Kidnapping and Domestic Battery in the case.
The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office released Harrington's arrest affidavit Tuesday afternoon. In it, the Sheriff's Office said that the additional charges were due to the information collected in the investigation of the kidnapping and battery of Lauer, the statement given to authorities from a man who admitted to helping Harrington burn Lauer's body in Harrington's back yard, and the results from the Center for Human Identification Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology in Denton, Texas of two bone pieces that were located in the burn pile behind Harrington's residence being identified as human remains.
Prosecuting attorney Chuck Graham told THV 11 that if convicted of capital murder, Harrington will face life without parole or the death penalty.
Harrington's next court appearance will be February 18th at 9 a.m. in the Lonoke Circuit Court. Graham expects Harrington to plead not guilty to the charges.
